Broncos Record First Win Of 2005
Cal Poly Pomona men’s tennis team edges Western New Mexico, 5-4

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team picked up its first win of the season by edging Western New Mexico, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.

The Broncos (1-5) got a big win at No. 1 doubles from Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) and Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) and split the six singles contests to record the victory. Andy Chang won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, while Alan Chang won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.

The Broncos also got a win at No. 2 doubles from Tyrone Wang (Fr., Fullerton, Servite HS) and Nick Doan (Jr., Garden Grove, Garden Grove HS) and at No. 4 singles from Doan, who won 6-3, 6-2.

Broncos Blanked By APU
Cal Poly Pomona men’s tennis team drops 9-0 decision

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team got blanked by one of the top NAIA teams in the nation Wednesday at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.

The Broncos (0-5) dropped all three doubles contests and all six singles matches in a 9-0 loss to Azusa Pacific. Cal Poly Pomona took a pair of matches to three sets in singles, but was unable to pick up a point.

Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) lost at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and teamed with his twin brother Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) in an 8-4 loss at No. 1 doubles. Alan Chang lost at No. 2 singles, 8-3.

Sebastian Torres (Jr., Cali, Columbia, Cameron University) lost at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 5-7, 10-6) and Dustin Andolsen (So., Healdsburg, Cardinal Newman HS) lost at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 in the closest matches of the day.

The Broncos will return to action on March 26 with a home match against Western New Mexico.

Broncos Fall To Alliant University
Cal Poly Pomona men’s team loses, 7-2

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team got off to a good start, but had trouble with the finish.

The Broncos won two of three doubles contests, but lost all six singles matches and fell to Alliant University, 7-2, Monday at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. Cal Poly Pomona slips to 0-3 on the season.

Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) and Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) won at No. 1 doubles, 9-7 and Ty Wang (Fr., Fullerton, Servite HS) and Dustin Andolsen (So., Healdsburg, Cardinal Newman HS) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Andy Chang lost a tough match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-6 and Wang dropped a three-set match at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 5-7, (10-5).

The Broncos will return to action on Friday with a home match against Occidental College.

Broncos Blanked By Hawaii-Hilo
Cal Poly Pomona men’s team loses to Vulcans, 9-0

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team had a rough outing against one of the NCAA Division II West Region’s best teams.

The Broncos fell to Hawaii-Hilo, the fourth-ranked team in the region, 9-0, Thursday afternoon at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. Cal Poly Pomona, which lost to No. 3 UC San Diego earlier this month, falls to 0-2 on the season.

Cal Poly Pomona opened the season ranked sixth in the region.

In the featured matches of the day, Hawaii Hilo’s Jeremy Moitry beat Cal Poly Pomona’s Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Dan Pollock defeated Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.), 6-3, 6-0. Moitry and Pollack defeated Chang and Chang at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.

In the most competitive match of the afternoon, Hawaii Hilo’s Mitchel Gelina rallied to defeat Cal Poly Pomona’s Nick Doan (Jr., Garden Grove, Garden Grove HS) at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 4-6 (10-7).

The Broncos will return to action on Monday with a home match against NAIA program Alliant University.

Broncos Fall To UC San Diego
Cal Poly Pomona men’s team loses to Tritons, 8-1

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team opened the dual match portion of its 2004-05 season with a loss to one of the NCAA Division II West Region’s top teams.

The Broncos picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles, but that was it as UC San Diego rolled to an 8-1 victory Thursday afternoon at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. Cal Poly Pomona (0-1), which had competed in the Cal State L.A. Invitational last weekend, was competing in its first dual match of the season.

Cal Poly Pomona picked up its lone point at No. 1 doubles, where Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) and Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) blanked UC San Diego’s Eric Rubens and Blake Meister, 8-0. Andy Chang lost to Bryan Swatt at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Alan Chang fell to Brent Molden at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

UC San Diego also swept the other four singles matches in straight sets and also prevailed in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests.

The Broncos will return to action next Friday when they host the California Men’s Tennis Invitational.

Broncos Conclude Play At Cal State L.A.
Cal Poly Pomona men’s and women’s tennis teams compete in tourney

LOS ANGELES -- Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s and women’s tennis teams concluded play at the Cal State L.A. Tennis Invitational on Saturday.

Dehlia Feliz (Sr., San Gabriel, San Gabriel HS) lost to Cal State L.A.’s Charise Godoy, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a quarterfinal match in the women’s singles Flights 1-2. Sara Jex (Sr., Los Olivos, Saddleback JC) won her second-round singles match in Flights 5-6 over Stephanie Hammond of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, but then lost to Dana Popeseu of Cal State L.A. in the semis, 6-4, 6-2. Ellyn Caprara (Fr., Carlsbad, The Woodlands, TX) won her second-round match in Flights 5-6 over Christiana Scolinos of Azusa Pacific, 6-3, 7-5, but then lost to Lisa Atkins of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-0, 6-0. Katrina Holmberg (Jr., Pukalani, Maui, HI, King Kekaulike HS) and Renee Paquillo (So., Fullerton, Rosary HS) both dropped consolation bracket matches on Saturday.

On the men’s side, Alan Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) and Andy Chang (Sr., Torrance, Cal State L.A.) lost consolation bracket matches on Saturday to conclude play in the tourney. The Chang twins also lost their second-round doubles match.

The Bronco men will return to action on Thursday with a home match against UC San Diego, while the women will play next on Wednesday at Azusa Pacific.
