The Broncos led by double-digit margins for the entire second half and held advantages as large as 27 points. Cal Poly Pomona limited Chico State to just 34.9 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers. The Broncos enjoyed a slim 35-34 edge in rebounding. The story was the same on Saturday night as the Broncos took control early and rolled to a 76-50 over Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. The Broncos limited the Warriors to just five first-half field goals and led, 36-14, at halftime. Cal State Stanislaus was unable to get closer than 18 points in the second half. Cal Poly Pomona shot 53.6 percent for the game, while limiting the Warriors to just 33 percent. Sybesma had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Broncos, while Bonds added 13 points, five rebounds, four blocks and four steals. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: BRONCOS EARN A SPLIT ON TOUGH CCAA TRIP

2004-05 Record: 9-4. 2004-05 CCAA Record: 4-2

2004-05 National Ranking: 15

BRONCOS LOSE AT NO. 24 CHICO STATE, THEN BEAT WARRIORS: Cal Poly Pomona’s women’s basketball team rebounded from a tough loss in Chico on Friday and earned a weekend split with a win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. The Broncos, ranked 15th in the nation in the latest Division II WBCA/ESPN Coaches’ Poll, opened the weekend with a 68-62 loss at No. 24 Chico State, which is enjoying the best start in school history. The Broncos did a successful job in limiting the highest-scoring team in the nation to well under its national scoring average of 94.7 points per game, but could not get their own offense untracked. The Broncos also held Chico State without a field goal for the last eight minutes of the game while almost coming all the way back from a 16-point deficit. Candice Allen (Sr., Ontario, University of Arizona) had 19 points, four assists and four rebounds for the Broncos, while Brandi Fletcher (Jr., Pomona, Diamond Ranch HS) had 14 points and nine rebounds. Natasha Reed (Fr., San Francisco, Deer Valley HS) added 10 points and seven rebounds. The Broncos trailed at halftime, 38-29 and fell behind by 16 points, 57-41, with 12:05 remaining. A 3-pointer by Lauren Stayton (Jr., Inglewood, Fresno State) started a 9-0 run by the Broncos that sliced the deficit to 57-50 with 9:12 to go. The Wildcats built the lead back to 11 points, but a 3-pointer by Ashley Moody (Fr., Carson, King Drew HS) started an 8-0 run that made it 63-60 with 3:22 to go. After a pair of Chico State free throws, Allen made two free throws to cut it to 65-62, but Chico State hit three throws in the final minute and took advantage of a key charging call against Cal Poly Pomona with 31 seconds remaining. Cal Poly Pomona rebounded with an 86-78 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night. Allen poured in 45 points, her second-highest total of the season behind only her 50-point outburst in a win over nationally-ranked Glenville State, to lead the way. She also had seven rebounds and 11 steals. Allen tied a CCAA record for most free throws made in a game (20) and tied the conference mark with Cyrstal Fernandez of San Francisco State and former Bronco Lauri McIntosh for attempts (23). Fletcher had another strong game as well with 15 points and four rebounds. Reed had nine points and three rebounds, while Shanika Perkins (Jr., Oakland, Oakland HS) had five points, four rebounds and four steals. The Broncos expanded a 39-35 halftime lead to a 66-46 advantage on a basket by Fletcher with 11:15 to go and never led by less than eight points the rest of the way.

BRONCOS SET TO HOST PACK THE GYM NIGHT: Cal Poly Pomona’s women’s basketball team, ranked 15th in the NCAA Division II, will host Cal State San Bernardino Friday at 5:30 p.m. on Pack the Gym Night in Kellogg Gym.
