Give it a try, since it is a lot cheaper as a student. If you feel that you do not want the service anymore, then simply do not renew your membership. A membership comes with monthly technical magazines, an ID card, and the ASME website itself has a lot of engineering tools available to members. Also, for being a registered member, students receieve a free Cal Poly Pomona ASME t-shirt.
