Concrete Canoe Class Policies
- Any engineering
student may participate in design and construction of the concrete canoe
with the approval of club president(s)
- Registration in CE
499 is not required in order to be a member of the concrete
canoe club or to participate in the club's activities
- All engineering
students are encourage to participate whether as volunteers not enrolled in
CE 499 or academic students enrolled in CE 499
- Student wishing to
earn academic credit for work on concrete canoe may sign up for CE 499-03 (CRN
73519) 2 units if they meet the following requirements
- Plan to play a
significant role in the design, research and/or project
management/controls of the canoe project
- Demonstrate the
commitment needed to successfully complete a individually directed
course of study
- Receive approval
of the faculty advisor
- Students who enroll
in CE 499 will be required to submit an individual academic plan (IAP) by
the end of the second week of the quarter. The IAP should be approximately
one type written page and will include
- Statement of the
student's academic goals to be pursued in the project
- List of academic
products the student will be wholly or substantially responsible for
(e.g. concrete mix design spec, hull design specs, technical paper,
program management plan)
- Each IAP must be
approved by the faculty advisor
- Students enrolled in
CE 499 must keep a weekly timesheet documenting time spent on the project by
task
- The faculty advisor,
as instructor of CE 499, will determine individual student grades based upon
1) students' adherences to the IAP, and 2) quality of work
- Grades will be
assigned based on the following descriptions as described in the University
Catalogue
- A = superior work
- B = very good
work
- C = adequate work
- D = minimally
acceptable work
- F = unacceptable
work
