The Art Department's primary mission is teaching excellence and program quality. Because of our unique situation being part of the College of Environmental Design, we are dedicated to challenging students with an awareness of the environmental, social, and ethical issues facing all of us in today's society. We are committed to teaching students about these issues through various projects and topic studios. Furthermore the educators of the Art Department are committed to:
1.
Building a foundation of creativity to support self-expression and individual intellectual development while meeting career goals and curriculum structure for a competitive student body.
2.
Creating an awareness of the cultural diversity reflected in the learning experience and the teaching pedagogy.
3.
Fostering a global awareness that includes environmental, social, and ethical issues.
4.
Promoting a sense of community beyond the immediate creative environment.
5.
Creating a broad base of knowledge to support conceptual and technological developments.

Upon entry into the Art Department, a student is assigned a faculty advisor. This faculty member will assist with questions about curriculum, registration, and academic policy. Each faculty member keeps posted weekly office hours (these posted hours are located just outside the Art Department office as well as on each faculty member's office door). If you have questions about curriculum or any academic policy and your advisor does not know the answer, he or she will direct you to the proper department/person. The department chair is also available to help when other avenues have not been successful.
We encourage you to see your assigned advisor on a regular basis.
