CAL POLY POMONA FACULTY CURATING EXHIBITION FOR UPCOMING PACIFIC STANDARD TIME PRESENTS: MODERN ARCHITECTURE IN L.A.

The Cal Poly Pomona College of Environmental Design (ENV) will participate in the Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. initiative this spring, hosting an exhibition titled Technology and Environment: The Post War House in Southern California. The Technology and Environment exhibition will run at the Cal Poly Pomona W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery from April 11 to June 12, 2013, showcasing new and rarely seen images and fresh insights into some of Southern California’s finest examples of modern architecture.

Congratulations to faculty member Bob Alexander for winning the 2013 Rotch Travelling Scholarship.

Associate Professor Axel Schmitzberger is co-organizing the urban design conference Re:Street with Prof. Wolfgang Christ (Bauhaus University Weimar) and Fareed Majari (Goethe-Institut Los Angeles). The conference hosts internationally recognized speakers focusing on the definition of the street as a commercial, social and cultural entity in the urban development of the 21st century. The conference is hosted by Metro LA, at the third floor at One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90012 from April 5th-6th, 2013. Go to www.re-street.com to register.

 

Associate Professor Axel Schmitzberger is lecturing at NJIT on Monday, April 8th, 2013. Title of the talk is "An Alchemcial Index."

 

Faculty Member Barry Milofsky, a Partner in the firm of M2A Milofsky Michali & Cox Architects received 2012 preservation awards from the Los Angeles Business Council and the California Preservation Foundation for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Glen Lukens House and Studio. Read more.

Cal Poly Pomona students Aaron Angeles & Alice Liang won 2nd Place at
the AIA 1:2 Student Competition over break. For this one-day design
charette participating students were tasked with imagining a new space
for the 600-foot long tunnel that passes underneath the rail lines at
the historic Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The second place
award includes a $6,000 cash prize! Congratulations! For more information, go to:

Student projects from George Proctor's winter topic studio were part of
the World of Modular Expo in Scottsdale Arizona. The Modular Building
Institute sponsored the fabrication of movable, 3d printed models for
this exhibit.

Congratulations to Architecture students for placing in the California's Coalition for Adequate School Housing (C.A.S.H) 2013 Student Design Award competition.

ARMITA KALANTARI – 3rd Place
Veronica and Shimin won first and second place with the work completed in Professor Irma Ramirez's ARC 303L School Design Studio. Armita, who won third place completed the work in Lecturer Dennis McFadden's ARC 303L Studio. This studio course is performed in coordination with ARC 499 taught by Professors Gary McGaving and Hofu Wu.


Their projects will be highlighted during the C.A.S.H. 34th Annual Conference general session on February 26 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento.
