history

It all started when seven young ladies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona found that there was no Asian-American organization established to promote sisterhood on campus. Seven ladies, Allex Choi, Candy Cunanan, Christine Nguyen, Sandie Rillera, Grace Hsieh, Kolleen Kim, and Jennifer Oku got together and founded the first Asian-American interest sorority, Alpha Phi Gamma, on February 1, 1994, at Cal Poly Pomona. The basis of Alpha Phi Gamma was to promote Asian Awareness to the university and to the community, allowing for all the different nationalities to discover what other cultures have to offer.

Alpha Phi Gamma also focused on other aspects such as philanthropy activities and socials. Some philanthropy activities the ladies of Alpha Phi Gamma associate with are, L.A. AIDS Walk, Orange County AIDS Walk, Race for the Cure, March of Dimes, House of Hope, and many more. Socials are also arranged to get more acquainted with local fraternities and sororities.

Alpha Phi Gamma is composed of a diverse group of young ladies with varying majors, interests, and backgrounds. This provides a different experience each young lady shared and learns from. With each sister's determination and desire, the sorority was able to grow, as well as, share their sisterhood for a lifetime.
