Even President Ortiz knows the importance parents play in helping each student achieve his/her educational goals!

It is our desire to provide your son or daughter with a successful and rewarding experience while attending Cal Poly Pomona. We believe that parents play a significant role in their child’s success, and we view you as partners in that process.

During 2003-2004, 1,200 parents donated over $55,000 to improve and enhance the educational opportunities available for our current students!

As parents, you understand the importance and value of a college degree and you also understand the challenges that our state’s higher education system is facing. We have fewer state resources to support our academic mission but have not lowered our standards or our expectations. We have experienced the single largest budget cut in our history — 11%. Our students have also experienced the single largest tuition increase of 30%.

We want you to know that Cal Poly Pomona is taking steps to ensure that every admitted student has every opportunity possible to make the most of his or her college education and graduate! We have implemented an authentic admissions process by which we are only admitting those students for whom we have funding for. This allows us to be more selective and only admit the top caliber of students! Based on a legislative mandate, we have been directed to plan for zero enrollment growth for the 2004-2005 academic year. That means that the number of students we admit cannot exceed the number of students that have graduated or left the university. The goal of this is to ensure that every current student has the access to classes and resources they need to complete their degree. Zero enrollment growth will alleviate the burden of additional students on a university that is already working at full capacity!

We know how important it is for you to be informed in every way possible about the issues and activities of the campus. We encourage you to visit our on-line newsletter, PolyCentric, (link to PolyCentric at http://polycentric.csupomona.edu/) which provides up-to-the-minute news and schedules of events. A completely updated version appears each Monday.
