Cal Poly Pomona AMM students created this video about all the things we "learn by doing" about the fashion business. No other major in CA has all this, from design to production to supply chain!
Welcome to the Apparel Merchandising & Management (AMM) Virtual Tour
We are absolutely the only program in California where you learn everything about the apparel business, not just fashion design, which we of course love, but that’s only part of it. We "learn by doing" about garment production and manufacturing, textiles, buying, retailing, merchandising, pricing, inventory management, you name it. It’s fun, it’s real, and it prepares us to work in any part of the business.

Seniors apply everything we’ve learned to create our own product lines and market them at three outlets on campus, online and at pop-up stores at events.

Working with machines and the latest technology
The department has machines (from textile analysis to cutting) CAD systems and an awesome system that lets you try your designs on an avatar of yourself!

Clubs and Events
Runway Revolution: Our Fashion Show
In 2011 we put on a major fashion show of hot LA-based lines as well as student creations. Cal Poly students were the catwalk models. Over 300 people came including influential industry people.

Our clubs put on events all year
Both the Fashion Society and the AMMA Club put on all kinds of events during the year. We bring in fashion industry people from designers to stylists to talk about their careers. Our how-to workshops are fun for the whole campus.

We go on all kinds of field trips together to companies and industry events including shows of the new collections – not only in LA but..this year a few of us went to London and Paris.

The fashion industry loves our grads because we have so much real-world experience. We get to intern at major companies from Target to True Religion.

Donating our newborn clothing creations
We get involved in the community. One team in apparel design and production donated our designs to needy women who had just given birth.
