General Information

Advising

Advising is the process by which a faculty member is assigned to you to provide support in navigating your way through university life.  This includes guiding you in planning your schedule and path to graduation.  It also includes help with other academic or personal issues.  You are free to arrange an appointment with your advisor during their office hours at any time of the academic year.  However, all AMM students are required to see their advisor in the Fall and Spring quarters.

For more information and to access forms that will help you plan your schedule and track your degree progress, see the Advising Noticeboard in Building 45 and the Advising Folder on the Department’s Blackboard site.  Additional information is available from Bronco Compass.

Scholarships

AMM has a diversity of scholarships available.  These are mainly funded by donations from companies, charitable foundations and individuals.

Available scholarships fall into three categories:

  • Merit Awards – awarded on the basis of academic achievement
  • Merit-based scholarships requiring application
  • Scholarship competitions
  • Special drawings

The College of Agriculture and the University also offer scholarships on a competitive basis.  For University scholarships visit the Office of Financial Aid website.  There are also a number of external organizations that award scholarships on a competitive basis to apparel students.

We encourage you to apply for AMM and other scholarships.  For more information visit the Scholarship Folder on the Department’s Blackboard site.

Internships

Internships are an integral part of the AMM curriculum.  They form part of the senior experience.  A four unit element in the senior year is divided between the pre-internship career preparation class and the Internship itself.  AMM students are popular interns for many companies in the Southern California area.  There are also internships farther afield.  A number of AMM students do internships in New York, and other venues in the East.  There are also internships available overseas.

As part of the AMM philosophy of professional development, students are expected to arrange their own internships.  However, the department is frequently contacted by companies seeking interns.  These inquiries are posted on the Announcements page on the Department’s Blackboard site, making this an important internship resource.

Careers

Career tracks available to graduates are diverse and there are many opportunities according to your individual interests.  The University Careers Center provides a comprehensive service to help you develop skills in marketing yourself to potential employers and in finding that first career opening.  We frequently receive inquiries from local companies with career openings.  These position announcements are posted on the Announcements page on the Department’s Blackboard site.  AMM faculty are also useful contacts in finding career openings.
