PolyAlumni E-Newsletter - Cal Poly Pomona
October 2012
In This Issue
Fall is one of the most exciting times of the year at Cal Poly Pomona. Not only do thousands of students return to campus, but the season brings some of the university’s most beloved traditions. Matt’s Run, a 5k that benefits scholarships, will be held Oct. 13. The Pumpkin Festival is the following weekend on Oct. 20 & 21. Alumni are invited to an exclusive preview of the pumpkin patch the previous Thursday evening. This issue of PolyAlumni spotlights Ron Simons, also known as Mr. Cal Poly Pomona, who first came to campus in 1959 and retired this summer.

Ron Simons’ love of the university began as a student during the Eisenhower Administration. More than five decades later, after receiving an honorary doctorate in June, the man affectionately known as Mr. Cal Poly Pomona headed out — but not before telling a few stories.

Anyone who knows Simons knows that it is nearly impossible to walk away from a conversation with him and not learn something about the university, which has been a part of his DNA since he first set foot on campus as a freshman in 1959.
