Frank Pine
’95, English
Frank Pine has always adopted a hands-on approach to learning and leading.
As a part-time manager of Coco’s Restaurant & Bakery during college, he learned to take orders, manage the restaurant’s inventory and crack an egg with one hand. At Cal Poly Pomona, he was editor of Portfolio, a nonfiction anthology sponsored by the English department, and solicited manuscripts, proofed copy, and typed pages after pages of text.

Graduate Architecture Students Take Train Station to a New Level
The Anaheim train station, a nondescript slice of asphalt and track wedged between Angel Stadium, the Orange Freeway and a medical clinic, is giving way to a sleek, multi-use transportation hub. Architectural giant HOK has been awarded the contract to design the 66,000 square-foot regional transit center, but Cal Poly Pomona graduate architecture students just might see a hint of their ideas in the completed project.
Construction, Class Availability Discussed at Q&A
At the return of Pizza with the Presidents for 2010-11, President Michael Ortiz and ASI President Ismael Souley fielded questions from students on topics ranging from campus construction to the availability of classes.
Ortiz began the Oct. 14 noon-hour event by thanking Associated Students Inc. for its assistance in bringing free pizza back to the quarterly open forum. Due to budget concerns last year, free food had been eliminated and the event was renamed Brown Bag with the Presidents.
WASC Commends University's Commitment to Student Success
The WASC visiting team praised Cal Poly Pomona and its efforts in developing a strategic plan, educational mission and system of assessment to ensure students receive a quality education.
"This report will be very positive," says WASC Chair Howard Cohen, chancellor of Purdue University Calumet at the exit meeting Friday.
Celebrating Access for All
Computer screen readers, automatic doors and accessible parking spaces are a few of the many changes in the past 20 years that have enabled people with disabilities to navigate the campus, both physically and academically. Since the Americans with Disability Act was passed in 1990, the university has improved access to buildings, pathways, transportation, and programs and services. The Disability Resource Center provides academic accommodations and support services to about 450 students.
