Adult CPR First Aid Class
November 4 – Student Health Services is offering a one-day American Red Cross Adult CPR and first aid class for $30. Register and pre-pay at The Wellness Center (Bronco Student Center, Rm. 1341). Read more.

Arabian Horse Faire Coming Nov. 5
November 5 – Ever wonder how horseshoes fit or what it's like to compete in an endurance race on an Arabian horse? Well, you'll find answers to these horsy questions and more at the Arabian Horse Faire on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona's Arabian Horse Center. Read more...

Tour Kellogg House Pomona
November 5 – Attend a free, walk-in open house tour of historic Kellogg House Pomona, once the west coast home of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. The open house tours are from noon to 2 p.m. and held in conjunction with the Arabian Horse Shows. Read more.

Wines of the World Course
November 6 to December 11 – The new six-week Wines of the World course offered by the College of the Extended University has been rescheduled and will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kellogg House Pomona. Register online at http://www.ceu.csupomona.edu/courses/enrich/wine.asp.

Plastics Failure Analysis Course
November 15 A new one-day intensive course highlighting the principles of plastics failure analysis, failure prevention and product liability is being offered by the College of the Extended University. Wine Tasting Seminars
November 16 Introduction to Wine Tasting, a class for beginners who want to sample a variety of wines and learn about sensory evaluation, tasting techniques and buying and storing wine, is being offered by the College of the Extended University. Phillip Clarke Memorial Piano Scholarship Fundraiser
November 17 – The Music Department presents this event honoring Dr. Phillip Clarke and his 22-year teaching career. Performances by music students, alumni and faculty will benefit the Cal Poly Pomona Piano Program. Dr. Nadia Shpachenko, faculty members and renowned Ukrainian pianist will perform. Read more...

IT Training Orientation Session
December 11 – This free orientation session highlights the College of the Extended University's series of new, flexible format Information Technology certificate programs. Behind the Scenes: Recent Graduates Tackle Customer Service on Land and Sea

Dominic DonatoniCal Poly Pomona's top-ranked Collins School of Hospitality Management is a gift that keeps on giving. Graduating seniors are scooped up by elite employers before the commencement singers have begun to rehearse. This month, the Alumni Spotlight is tracking the career of alumnus Dominic Donatoni, hospitality management '04, who currently serves as director of room operations for Aliso Creek Inn in Laguna Beach. His work at the ocean-front resort encompasses everything from monitoring staff at the front desk to sweeping through the extensive grounds with the maintenance crew. Roxanne RosasAlso demonstrating the breadth and scope of Cal Poly Pomona graduates is Roxanne Rosas, theater '05, who takes her education onboard the Princess Cruise Line as a production technician for its many entertainments. When the Alumni Spotlight swings in her direction, it will have to go behind the curtains because that is where she can be found. Ortiz, Schwarzenegger Visit School in Glendale To Discuss Prop.1-D
University President Michael Ortiz recently met with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and local school officials in Glendale to discuss a bond measure that would generate $10.4 billion to improve facilities. Read more...

New Mathematics Education Program Offered
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is launching a new graduate program designed to train students how to teach mathematics at the community-college level. The department is adding an emphasis in mathematics education to its master's in mathematics program. Read more...

2006 Management & Staff Emeritus Winners Named
Twenty-one retiring staff members were recognized with Distinguished Management & Staff Emeritus Awards on Monday, Oct. 23. Established in 1981, this honor is given to retiring staff employees who have worked on campus for at least 10 years and have demonstrated outstanding job performance, support of university. 2006-07 President's Council Scholars Honored
Cal Poly Pomona recognizes outstanding student achievement through the President's Council Scholars program. Considered the most prestigious scholarship series at the university, President's Council Scholarships have been awarded to 24 students. Read more...

Successful First-Run for Charity 5K
Even a little drizzle could not dampen the inaugural Matthew Myers Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 14. The successful charity event attracted about 340 runners and 130 volunteers. The memorial run was held to honor the life of Matthew Myers, who died last year. Read more...

After graduation, student health coverage terminates and any health insurance protection provided by parents' policies also ends. New graduates need health coverage.
