November 10 – The College of the Extended University is offering a one-day seminar for individuals interested in becoming a notary. Wine-Tasting Seminars Scheduled
November 17 and December 13 – Learn about wine at these new seminars. The Nov. 17 session on "Introduction to Wine Tasting" is for beginners who want to sample a variety of wines, learn about tasting techniques and buying wine. The Dec. 13 session on "Exploring Two Worlds: Bordeaux and Cucamonga" features two fourth-generation winemakers sharing their expertise and wines from very different regions. Read more.

Larry Gates '87, Civil EngineeringLarry Gates '87, Civil Engineering

Some people, when they leave with their degrees, might harbor fond memories of their alma maters, but do not return. Civil engineering alumnus Lawrence "Larry" Gates graduated in 1987 from Cal Poly Pomona, but he never really left. He and his wife, Amy, continue to support current and future students in extraordinary ways.

"I feel that I got a superb education at a reasonable price," says Gates. "People who become successful should give back to their university, especially the state-supported ones that don't receive many outside donations." Read more...

Fall 2006 Open Enrollment Underway
The fall 2006 initial application filing period for California State University campuses opened on October 1 and will run through November 30. The CSU received 36,600 online applications during the first two weeks of the filing period. Read more...

New Glass Mosaic Mural Planned for Lyle Center Amphitheatre
Art department faculty member Joyce Hesselgrave is working with Kyle Brown, director of Center for Regenerative Studies, in creating a unique glass mosaic mural for the Lyle Center Amphitheatre. The design, based on an abstract of the center's original topographical overhead, was conceived and drawn by Hesselgrave. It will be developed/constructed by students in her Art 280 sculpture class.

Academy of Literacy through the Arts Classes
The Academy for Literacy through the Arts offers excellent programs in the arts for children and youth at the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center. New classes begin in January. Read more...
