Cal Poly Pomona is in the throws of preparing yet another beautiful commencement. Many seniors are getting ready for their academic rites of passage by putting the final touches on projects and studying for their final finals. They will soon join the impressive ranks of more than 100,000 alumni. In this issue of Poly @lumni, we share with you the accomplishments of six alumni, who were honored as 2007 Distinguished Alumni. Events
Sing for the Cure
May 16-17 – The Cal Poly Pomona Music Department is proud to present the Susan G. Komen "Sing for the Cure" A Proclamation of Hope at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Read more.

Friends of Architecture Reception
May 17 – The Department of Architecture and the College of Environmental Design will host its 2nd annual Friends of Architecture (FOA) Reception from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Membership in the FOA helps to enhance the tradition of academic excellence by fueling innovations in programs and student services, funding scholarships, research, lecture series, publications and technology. Relay for Life Returns to Cal Poly Pomona
May 19 For the second year in a row, walkers and runners will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Pomona. This is a family-orientated team event where participants can walk or run relay-style around the track and take part in fun activities off the track. Teams can include co-workers, club members, family and friends who have gathered donations prior to the event. Read more.

Chivas USA vs. LA Galaxy
May 20 – Join the Raices (Hispanic) Alumni Chapter at 2 p.m. at the Home Depot Center. Sideline tunnel tickets are on sale for $20. To purchase tickets contact Lorena Marquez, vice president of the Raices Alumni Chapter, at marquez@csupomona.edu.

IT Training Orientation Session
June 9 – The IT Training department at the College of the Extended University is hosting an orientation session from 10 a.m. to 11:30 am. The free event will be held at Cal Poly Pomona's Center for Training, Technology and Incubation, 3660 W. Temple Ave. (Bldg. 220B). Participants will hear an overview of the new IT course curriculum and can meet with instructors to discuss the new courses and certificate programs. 50th Annual Commencement
June 8-10 – Cal Poly Pomona's 51st annual Commencement will take place over three days in the University Quad. Alumni and friends are invited to attend in person or view the pomp and circumstance online. To view the schedule of ceremonies, visit http://www.csupomona.edu/~commencement/.

Career Success Conference 2007 - Paving the Road to your Success
June 13 – This year's Career Success Conference is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bronco Student Center. This event is specifically designed to help students and alumni in their job search process. Workshops are provided by leading employers on job search techniques and employer resume critiques. A mini-job fair will also give attendees a chance to network with employers. Registration is available at http://career.csupomona.edu - space is limited!

Alumni Association Annual Meeting
June 14 – Network, win prizes and learn about what is happening at Cal Poly Pomona. ASI Alumni Chapter presents."Summerfest"

2007 Distinguished Alumni

Continuing a 47-year tradition of recognizing Distinguished Alumni, seven alumni were honored at a reception and dinner on April 27 at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch. Honorees were recognized for their professional achievement, community involvement and service to the university.

New 750,000-Square-Foot Parking Structure Opens
Many people came out May 7 to celebrate the opening of the university's new parking structure. The new structure will provide an additional 2,378 parking spaces. To celebrate the new building, the campus community was invited to a grand opening ceremony and lunch held on the front patio of the structure. Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona Students Earn EPA Sustainability Award
A group of students and their faculty advisors recently received an honorable mention in the EPA's prestigious 3rd annual P3 (People, Prosperity and the Planet) Award competition - a national student design contest for sustainability. The students also garnered the top Ecomedia Award. Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona Committed to Achieving Climate Neutrality
Cal Poly Pomona is taking a stand on global warming, and it is starting so by addressing its own impact on the environment. A comprehensive plan is being developed to assess and reduce the university's greenhouse gas emissions in order to become climate neutral. Read more...

Summer 2007 is Bigger & Better
Thousands of students have helped shape the direction of Summer 2007. More upper-division courses and financial aid are being offered as a direct response to student needs. For the second year, a campus-wide student survey was conducted during the winter quarter to let students voice their preferences for summer quarter courses. Read more...

Dean Donald Straney Takes On Dual Role
College of Science Dean Donald Straney has agreed to fill a dual role as interim dean of the College of Agriculture, effective June 11. In December, Wayne Bidlack announced his decision to return to the classroom after serving as dean of the College of Agriculture for 12 years. Read more...

Become a Mentor and Win a Prize
This fall, the Alumni Mentor Program will go live to our students. In an effort to double the number of mentors we have before then, the Office of Alumni Affairs is sponsoring a "prize blow out." Stepped Up Saturday Patrols: Education/Warning Period Through July 1
To better comply with state regulations parking officers will begin patrolling regularly on Saturdays. In order to park legally, the display of a valid Cal Poly Pomona annual hangtag, quarter hangtag, or daily parking permit is necessary. To help inform visitors about the stepped-up Saturday patrols, parking officers will begin an education/warning period and will not begin citing until July 1. Please observe all parking rules and regulations while on campus. For more information, contact Parking & Transportation Services at (909) 869-3061, Monday - Friday. Registration Underway for Event Planning and Wedding Consultant Course
The College of the Extended University will offer an event management certificate program during summer quarter. Registration is underway for the Social Functions and Community Activities Planning Certificate, which begins June 18. Read more...

Open University Classes Offered through Extended Ed
Alumni who need to take additional college courses for career advancement or those who want to update a current degree are encouraged to explore the opportunities through Open University. Offered by the College of the Extended University, Open University allows individuals to take regular academic credit courses without admission to the university. Read more...

Professional Development Courses Offered by Extended Ed
The College of the Extended University is offering a variety of professional development courses and certificate programs this summer including notary training, human resource management, IT training, construction management, plastics engineering and more.
