Around this time of year, students prepare to join the ranks of alumni at commencement. Some of them may even join the ranks of Distinguished Alumni in the future, as nine such alumni were recently recognized at an awards ceremony. Track & Field/Cross Country BBQ
May 15 Alumni, friends and family are invited to a barbecue for Track & Field/Cross Country. This event will be held in conjunction to the Wind/Windless Invitational at noon on Kellogg Field. To RSVP, e-mail tony.reyes@verizon.net.

2nd Annual Career Success Conference
May 16-20 You are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Career Success Conference in the Bronco Student Center. This conference will provide great information, networking opportunities and employer mock interviews. Red Cross Blood Drive
May 17-19 Student Health Services is sponsoring a campuswide Red Cross blood drive in the Bronco Student Center . Signing up to donate is easy.just go to www.GiveLife.org, and enter in the sponsor code of "CLPOLY." By donating blood, you may be saving up to three lives! College of ENV Reception in Las Vegas
May 19 The College of Environmental Design will host a cocktail reception for alumni and friends as part of the National AIA Conference in Las Vegas. There will be a prize drawing for a Las Vegas package at the reception and the first 50 RSVPs will receive a second entry. Read more...

Alumni Brick Walk Unveiling
June 5 Celebrate the installation of 280 new bricks in the alumni brick walk. Alumni and friends who purchased a brick between October and December 2004 are invited to attend a barbecue and installation ceremony in the W.K. Kellogg Commemorative Rose Garden from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To RSVP, e-mail the Office of Alumni Affairs by June 1, 2005 at cpalumni@csupomona.edu or call 1-866-CPP-ALUM.

2005 Associated Students, Inc. Alumni Reception
June 8 Join fellow ASI alumni in the Bronco Student Center Orion Suite at 5:30 p.m. The theme is "Reconnecting to Create New Memories." To RSVP, contact alumni@asi.csupomona.edu by May 27or call (909) 869-5059.

Commencement
June 10-12 Cal Poly Pomona's 49th Annual Commencement will take place over three days in the University Quad. Alumni and friends are invited to attend in person or online. To view the schedule of ceremonies, visit the official commencement website.

Alumni Association Annual Meeting
June 14 Network, win prizes and learn about what is happening at Cal Poly Pomona. This annual reception will be held at the beautiful Kellogg House Pomona (Kellogg mansion) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, or to RSVP by June 10, contact the Office of Alumni Affairs (cpalumni@csupomona.edu) or call 1-866-CPP-ALUM. Meeting was originally scheduled June 16.

Continuing a 45-year tradition of recognizing Distinguished Alumni, nine alumni were honored at a reception and dinner on April 29 at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch. Honorees were recognized for their professional achievement, community involvement and service to the university. Read more about these outstanding alumni.

Alumni Mike Boyle and Bill Penick, Class of 1966, Bring Back Campus Chimes
A familiar sound has returned to the Cal Poly Pomona campus. While they may not ring a bell to current students, the carillon chimes that now sound every quarter hour from the top of Building 9 are as much a part of campus tradition as the university's green and gold colors and Bronco mascot. SIFE Team Wins Regional Competition; Heads to National Competition
The Cal Poly Pomona Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team returned to Pomona as victors after participating in the Los Angeles SIFE USA Regional Competition on April 14. The team will now advance to the national competition at the SIFE USA National Exposition, from May 22-24, in Kansas City, Mo. Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona Receives Funding for Entrepreneurial Projects From National Collegiate Inventors Alliance
From developing a special spoon holder for people struggling with cerebral palsy to redesigning a hand operated water pump for leg operation in developing countries, Cal Poly Pomona students and faculty are working on socially responsible, entrepreneurial projects thanks to a new grant. Alumnus Jack DangermondBrian Swanson Named Director of Athletics
Brian Swanson has been chosen as Cal Poly Pomona's new director of Athletics in the division of Student Affairs. His appointment begins May 31. "Brian will be an outstanding addition to the university," says Gary Fredericksen, interim vice president for Student Affairs. "His broad experience in athletics will only enhance a very successful program." Read more...

Industrial Engineering Students Honored for Best Technical Paper at IIE Regional Conference
Three students from the College of Engineering were recently awarded best technical paper at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) western regional student conference. Industrial Engineering seniors Manny Cortez, Paula Mitchell and Aung Zeya were honored for their paper, "Quality Improvement at Mitchell Laboratory." Read more...

ASISupport the Cal Poly Pomona Concrete Canoe
After competing against 17 schools (from Vegas to Hawaii) the Cal Poly Pomona Concrete Canoe Team finished first in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pacific Southwest Conference competition. This year's canoe is called "Limelite." You, too, can be in the "limelite" by helping to sponsor the team at the prestigious national competition in June. Read more...
