If you have not visited Cal Poly Pomona in a while, this month's edition of Poly @lumni offers a few good reasons to do so. In May, the university is presenting the Southern California Tasting & Auction. This month’s alumni spotlight highlights two former Broncos who are participating in this event with their companies — check it out and learn more about this exciting event. Also this spring, numerous professional development courses are being offered by Cal Poly Pomona’s College of the Extended University. These programs are open to a wide community that extends to local and national audiences, and to new expanding international venues. 

 
Events

New Landscape Technology Class
March 4 – The College of the Extended University will offer the Water Smart Landscape Plants series March 4 - April 8. This course is part of the Landscape Technology: Sustainable Landscaping/Water Conservation Certificate (CORE Certificate) program that focuses on drought tolerant plants, xeriscapes, efficient landscape design and more. The course will be offered at the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store, Bldg. 211-B. For complete details, visit www.ceu.csupomona.edu/courses/trade/default.aspx.

Alumni Reception in Washington D.C.
March 5 – Join Cal Poly Pomona alumni and campus representatives, as well as alumni from all 23 CSU campuses from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Longworth House Office Building, Caucus Room 1539. RSVP to cpalumni@csupomona.edu.

Landscape Supervision and Leadership Class
March 6 – A new six-week course in landscape supervision and leadership is being offered by the College of the Extended University from March 6 - April 10. This course offers a practical study of the management of landscape personnel in the public and private sectors. For complete details, visit www.ceu.csupomona.edu/courses/trade/default.aspx

State-Approved Notary Training Classes Offered
March 13 – The College of the Extended University is offering a one-day seminar for individuals interested in becoming a notary. The state-approved class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bronco Student Center. Additional classes will be held April 10 and May 9. New Construction Course
April 1 – The College of the Extended University is offering a new construction course called Deciphering Construction Plans. The 10-week course is beneficial to both field and office personnel and is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge of reading and interpreting plans and specifications for construction projects. Teacher Job Fair

2008 CSU Dodger Day
April 13 – Join alumni from Cal Poly Pomona and other Cal State Universities watch the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium. Game time is 1:10 p.m. and you must sign up by March 24. Tickets are $15, which is $5 off for a reserved level seat. Contact the Office of Alumni Affairs at 1-866-CPP-ALUM to sign up.

Spring Career Day & Summer Job Fair

Annual Evening With Industry Event
April 17 – The Management & Human Resources department is hosting its annual Evening With Industry event. Alumni are invited to come network with top industry professionals and fellow alumni. This year’s event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Minor Room. Pride & Excellence Scholarship Dinner 2008
April 17 – Sponsored by the Pride Center, the Lambda Chapter of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association and Pride Alliance, this event celebrates and honors students for their contributions to the LGBT community.  A special Donor’s Reception will be held at 5 p.m. at Kellogg West Conference Center, followed by the dinner and award presentation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. You can also sponsor a student who might otherwise not be able to attend the dinner for the small cost of $28. Please RSVP to Pride Center Coordinator Fernando Estrada at festrada@csupomona.edu.

Southern California Tasting and Auction
May 4 –The university will host the inaugural Southern California Tasting & Auction — an adventure of tastes, sights, and sounds on May 4. Nearly 800 discerning university friends and alumni will enjoy this unforgettable, open-air gathering to take place in the picturesque setting of the W.K. Kellogg Commemorative Rose Garden and the Aratani Japanese Garden. For more info, visit www.polytaste.com.

Student/Alumni Spotlight

On Saturday, May 4, Cal Poly Pomona is hosting an unforgettable afternoon of cuisine, fine wine, live and silent auctions, and entertainment. The Southern California Tasting & Auction is sure to become a signature event, engaging alumni and members of the campus community. The purpose of the Tasting & Auction is to support and advance academic enrichment for Cal Poly Pomona students and increase scholarship opportunities. Several of the university’s alumni and friends in the hospitality industry are participating, and close to 800 guests are expected to attend this special engagement.

This month, you are cordially invited to meet two alumni who are returning to campus with their restaurant companies as participants of the Southern California Tasting & Auction.
