Spotlight features ornamental horticulture alumnus
John Greenlee 87, an expert on native plants
whose nursery has the largest selection of native
grasses on the West Coast. As you might imagine,
the university is bursting with activity this season.

thats now in its 32nd year: the Annual Green

Intercollegiate Athletics warmly invites alumni to attend
the 32nd Annual Green & Gold Dinner on Saturday,
April 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Suites Fairplex.
The special gala, which features a drawing for $5,000
and a silent and live auction, raises funds for much-needed

Specialist
John
Greenlee's business card lists him as a "garden
consultant"
and "meadow specialist," and while those
titles describe his trade talents, this ornamental
grass expert has global aspirations.
"I
am such a proponent of partnering with the planet
instead of just decorating it," says Greenlee,
owner of Greenlee Nursery in Pomona and a 1987
Cal Poly Pomona ornamental horticulture alumnus.
"My quest is to have Americans trade in their
standard lawns for native, low-maintenance specimens."

degree were the first group inducted into the

and Staff Members Receive Special "Pay
Day"
In a show of appreciation, Cal Poly
Pomona's Student Alumni Association (SAA) distributed
more than 150 Pay Day candy bars to faculty
and staff during the week of Feb. 9. "We
really wanted to show our gratitude to our outstanding
faculty and staff members who support student
leaders," said Megan Joyce '05, president
of SAA (pictured with Laura Johnson in the university
events office.)

Alumni Chapter Forming
Attention biology alumni: An alumni
chapter for Cal Poly Pomona graduates majoring
in biology is currently being developed. If
you are interested in becoming a charter member
of this organization, please e-mail cpalumni@csupomona.edu
by March 15. A tentative event is being planned
for May.
Dinner
With 12 Strangers
Patterned after similar and successful
programs at other universities, Dinner With
12 Strangers brings together students and alumni
in an informal setting to foster mentoring and
friendship. The Office of Alumni Affairs is
seeking alumni who are willing to host or co-host
a dinner in their home or at a local restaurant.
Students
are matched with alumni based on logistics,
academic majors and outside interests. If you
are interested in participating in this program,

Leaders
The Alumni Association Board of Directors
seeks alumni with excellent leadership qualities
to consider three-year terms of service to the
association beginning July 1, 2004. Board members
serve Cal Poly Pomona's 85,000 alumni by developing
creative opportunities to keep them engaged
with the university. All applications are due
