Valentine's Day might be over, but this month's issue of the Poly @lumni has plenty of interesting treats. Upcoming Events

Dinner to Honor University Friends Richard and Nancy Murbach
The Collins School of Hospitality Management Chapter is hosting a three-course dinner to honor Richard and Nancy Murbach for their gift to the school. Their contribution, made in 1982, has generated six $150 scholarships per year. The Chapter wishes to invite the 100 recipients of this award, all local Collins School alumni, and various faculty and staff.

The event will be held at The Collins School of Hospitality Management, Friday, March 14, 6-8 p.m. Three-course dinner and wine: $30 per person. Please R.S.V.P. by Friday, Feb. 28 by calling the Office of Alumni Affairs at (909) 869-2963 with your credit card number. Or mail a check made out to Cal Poly Pomona Foundation to: Alumni Affairs, Cal Poly Pomona, 3801 W. Temple Ave., Pomona, CA 91768.

Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center Exhibit of Architectural Renderings Show the Pomona Valley as it Could Have Been
What if the corner of Mission Boulevard and Garey Avenue in Pomona featured a shopping center inspired by outer space? You can witness it yourself now as the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center showcases “Pomona Rendered,” an exhibit of architectural renderings, through the month of February. Cal Poly Pomona Presents Mozart's Requiem on March 6

Early Call: 10th Annual Geology Reunion, May 17
The geology department will be having a 10th reunion on May 17 at the Mount Baldy Lodge. The event includes an outdoor barbecue buffet at noon. A morning field trip is tentatively scheduled. Formal flyers will be sent out in March.

Actor and activist Ed Asner spoke against a war with Iraq during a recent Campus Forum at Cal Poly Pomona. Approximately 60 faculty, staff, students, community members and media representatives attended Asner’s discussion about “How An Artist Sees the Iraq War” on Feb. 5 in the CLA Building.

Mark "Mickey" Segal '80Mark "Mickey" Segal '80
Mickey Segal's client was parking her car in her garage when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes. The car crashed through the garage wall. However, when she called for help, she didn't dial an emergency dispatcher.

"Normally when that happens you would call 911, but she picks up her cell phone and calls us," says Segal, a 1980 Cal Poly Pomona accounting graduate and president of Assante Business Management. "We told her you need to call 911 and she said to us 'No, I don't want to call 911. Can you get one of the contractors you do business with to come over here and help?' Sure enough, we had somebody there in about 20 minutes and they got her out of the car." Read more...
