The footlights of Hollywood theatre beckon. CSU alumni
are invited to a night at the Pantages Theatre in the
historic Broadway Building for an evening performance
of Mel Brook's "The Producers," followed by

Mark
Peel, Hotel and Restaurant Management
"It's
the difference between knowing a song and knowing
how to sing," says chef Mark Peel of the
art of cooking.
For
the past 14 years, Peel, who studied hotel &
restaurant management from 1975-78, has been head
chef and co-owner of the successful Los Angeles
restaurant Campanile and its sister business,
La Brea Bakery, with his wife, Nancy Silverton.
A
native Californian, Peel began his career in restaurants
28 years ago starting with a part-time stint washing
dishes in a small kitchen near his hometown of
Santa Rosa. The restaurant was in Healdsburg,
the heart of the state's wine country. Read

Residential
Suites Vandalized; $20,000 Reward Offered For
Information Leading to Arrest
The new residential
suites that were nearing completion and set to
open this fall were vandalized in July. Cal Poly
Pomona staff and project contractors are diligently
working to assess and repair the damages, which
are expected to exceed $1 million. Read

Board of Trustees Approve Fee Increase
The
California State University Board of Trustees
voted to raise yearly fees by $474 for undergraduate
students and $522 for graduate students on Wednesday,
July 16. The decision, which means a 30 percent
increase, will take effect fall 2003. Read

Signs Relationship With Alumni Association
The Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association and the
university have officially formalized a 31-year
relationship. University President Bob H. Suzuki,
and Jon Lundstrom 76, 2002-03 president
of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association, signed
the Memorandum of Agreement in the presence of
directors of the Alumni Association who crafted

Renovation, Addition Planned for University Library
In an era of rapid technological and educational
change, its essential that a university
library remain on the cutting-edge as a provider
of information and research tools. And, with the
passage of last Novembers Proposition 47,
California voters agreed that the future of this
state rests in the quality of its education system.

on Kellogg Hill Slated to Get Another 'P' for
Pomona
The universitys landmark CP on the hill,
will soon receive an additional letter; another
P. The Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association has
taken on the project of adding the P for Pomona
in honor of retiring President Bob H. Suzuki.

Partnership With Mt. SAC to Address Information
Security Needs
Mt. San Antonio College and Cal Poly Pomona have
been awarded a three-year $900,000 grant to develop
new courses and degree programs that will train
information security professionals to guard against

Alumni Association Board
Introducing
the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association board of directors
for 2003-2004. Headed by new president Emma Hilario-Ballesteros
'84, MBA, the 20-member-strong team of leaders will
develop plans to increase membership, organize recreational
alumni events and enhance alumni networking opportunities.

Board
meetings are held the third Thursday of every other
month, beginning in September. Meeting locations vary,
so check the Alumni Affairs web site for details.
All alumni are welcome to attend. To participate in

on the Hill - Call for Personal Stories
In
1957, Cal Poly Pomona's freshman class wanted to create
an enduring symbol of school pride, and thus, plans
were made for permanent school letters to be installed
on Kellogg Hill. By the summer of '59, the initials
were complete. Click

Poly Rose Float Collection Now Featured on Web
The
Cal Poly Pomona University Library announces a new
Web site featuring the Cal Poly Rose Float Collection
at: http://www.csupomona.edu/~library/LibraryInfo/special/RoseFloat/index.html.
Last year, over 40 boxes of photos, files, and extensive
memorabilia documenting over 50 years of float building
were transferred to the library for permanent preservation
