Pre-Vet Club

About the Club

The Pre-Vet Club is currently the largest club in the Animal Science Department. This year there are approximately 70 active members who participate in the various club activities held during the year. The members share a common interest in entering the field of veterinary medicine, or the animal health care industry. The activities of the club are primarily geared towards exposing the students to the various aspects and options available to them within the field of veterinary medicine.

Members are kept busy during the year with numerous club activities including fund-raising and participating in many other socially entertaining events. Our main event every year is a trip to the National Pre Vet Symposium. This year it is hosted by Pennsylvania State University . We have lectures at some of our meetings. Some examples of lecturers are practicing veterinarians, the director of the Santa Ana Zoo, and the president of the California Turtle and Tortoise Club. We hold social events out side of school including bowling, broomball, lunches, and tv tapings. We have taken some educational field trips to UC Davis Veterinary School, the Helen Woodward Center in Del Mar, and the San Diego Wild Animal Park .

Cal Poly graduates have traditionally been very successful at being accepted into various schools of veterinary medicine throughout the nation. The Pre-Vet Club always welcomes new members and encourages participation in all activities sponsored by the Animal Science Department.
