Cal Poly Pomona

Students

Check out what current students have to say about the experience of being at Cal Poly Pomona College of Agriculture. Even though many students work and live off campus, we're a very special community. We support each other, celebrate our successes, and somehow make time for club, group, and community outreach projects.

Samantha Cummins Samantha Cummins

Food and Nutrition

Senior

"I would like to be a registered dietician working with schools in my community to improve lunch programs and the overall health of the children."

When asked why she chose Food and Nutrition as her major, Samantha Cummins replies, “... to prove my Mom wrong.”  While certainly an interesting reason to select a particular major, Samantha has excelled at Cal Poly Pomona not only in academics but also within her respective club (FN Forum). She aspires to be a registered dietician working with schools within her community to improve lunch programs and the overall health of the children. In her spare time, this Utah native enjoys running and staying active. You can meet her at Matt’s Run selling muffins to support both university scholarships and her club this October.

Danelle is a third year Agriculture Science major from nearby Fullerton, California. She desires to become an agriculture educator at a high school in Southern California upon graduation. While her curriculum focuses on a variety of agricultural subjects, Danelle says that she is most interested in plants. Her interest began while taking plant breeding from Dr. David Still in the spring of 2009 and it continues to grow while being employed in Dr. Still’s lettuce research laboratory. In her spare time, Danielle is involved with the Ag. Education club as well as being a line dancing enthusiast.

Courtney is a second year Plant Science student from Garden Grove, California. She has spent the summer of 2009 working at Cal Poly Pomona’s Spadra Ranch located off of Pomona Blvd. growing a variety of crops including corn, watermelons, oats, melons, tomatoes, and peppers. Some of these crops will be sold at the Farm Store while others will be sold to private buyers. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys hunting varmints, hiking, and canoeing in and around her favorite place on Earth- Cedarville, California.

As treasurer of Cal Poly Pomona’s Rodeo Club, Jeremiah has a passion for roping and has been doing it since the age of thirteen. He competes in nearly 30 events per year traveling as far as Springfield, Illinois to show off his skills.
