Ag Career Day

  • Ag Career Day is an annual event to provide our students with the opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals.
  • All students, freshmen through seniors, are encouraged to attend.
  • This event is designed to be an opportunity for students to explore future career options available in their chosen field.
  • Many companies that attend have part-time, full-time, or seasonal employment opportunities, as well as internships, that are made available to our students.
  • Ag Career Day attracts 50+ companies each year.
  • This activity is sponsored by the student-run Ag Council and the Dean's Office.

Student Information

What To Expect That Day

  • Sign in at the Ag Career Day Registration Table.  Get an Ag Career Day sticker and a raffle ticket.
  • If your instructor has assigned this as a class activity, sign in on your class roster.
  • Industry representatives will be at tables and may possibly have a display.  They will be ready to answer your questions and many will be distributing literature.  Some will have job opportunities or internships available. 
  • Some of the employers will be conducting interviews that day.  Come prepared for this opportunity!
  • Each company you stop and talk to will give you a raffle ticket.

Resumes

Many of the industry representatives participating in Ag Career Day will want to see your resume.  Be sure to have yours ready and bring plenty of copies.  If you need help with preparing a resume, go to the Career Center.

Attire

Ag Career Day is your opportunity to make a professional contact with someone in your industry.  Remember, first impressions DO COUNT.  It would be to your advantage to dress professionally.

Lunch

The first 100 students to register at the Registration Table will get a coupon for a free lunch.

Veterinary Schools

There will be a special display featuring information on veterinary schools in the United States.  Arrive early; booklets and flyers go fast.

Contests

Prizes will be awarded for the Best Resume and the best Dressed For Success student.  Sign up for these contests at the Registration Table.  Each participant will receive a raffle ticket.  A $25 gift certificate for the book store will be awarded to the winner of each contest.  Contestants will be judged at 12:00 p.m.

Raffle

You could win gift cards or Cal Poly Pomona gear.  All you have to do is attend Ag Career Day, check-in at the Registration Table, and get your raffle ticket.  In addition, each exhibitor you speak to will give you a raffle ticket.  Write your name and phone number on the back of your tickets and deposit in the tub at the Registration Table.  The raffle drawing will be held at 12:30 p.m.  There will be several prizes awarded.  Winners need not be present to win.

How To Have A Successful Ag Career Day

  • Dress appropriately.
  • Bring your resume.
  • Have questions prepared in advance.
  • Bring a smile and firm handshake!

Exhibitor Information

Event Date: Thursday, April 29, 2010 Set-Up: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Exhibit Time: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Location: College of Agriculture Patio

Exhibit Space: You will be provided one six foot table, two chairs, a tablecloth, and one umbrella. Due to the outdoor location of Ag Career Day, no electricity will be available.

Lunch: Provided for two. Additional lunches may be ordered in advance only.

Fee: $150 per company

Registration Deadline: April 1, 2010.

Registration: Registration information will be available in January 2010.
