1. Library Catalog

  • Use the Library Catalog to find books and other materials
  • Search by author, title, subject, or keyword
  • Does the Library have a certain journal? Search by journal title.
  • No access to journal articles.

2. Databases: Journal Articles and More

  • Access to thousands of articles in all subjects; many full text
  • Search by keyword, author, journal title, date, etc.
  • Click the Find It! button for help finding the article. FindIt button

Use these databases to find articles in engineering and technical journals:

  • Applied Science Full Text (WilsonWeb)
Best place to start for engineering research; excellent coverage of career and professional information. Depending on your topic, include Wilson’s Biological & Agricultural and/or General Science Indexes.

  • Compendex (Engineering Village 2)
Research database for engineering and applied sciences; includes conference proceedings, reports, and other engineering publications.

  • ACS Web (American Chemical Society)
Web editions of the society’s 40 journals, includes: Chemical & Engineering News, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Biotechnology Progress.

  • GreenFILE
An interdisciplinary databse focusing on the human impact on the environment.

If you need information about chemical prices, production, companies, or industries, try these databases:

3. Reference Sources

  • Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technologyred stars
Available in print and online editions, Kirk-Othmer is one of the most useful resources for chemical engineers. Comprehensive source on all aspects of chemical technology including chemicals, toxicology, manufacturing and process technologies. The technologies and processes for waste control and treatment are well covered. The 27 volume print edition is in Reference (2nd floor) TP 9 E685.

  • Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook (Ref TP 151 P45)
Comprehensive handbook covering all aspects of chemical engineering. Includes formulas, extensive tables, diagrams, and charts, properties, equipment and processes.

  • ASM Handbooks Online
Complete content of the ASM Handbook series (Ref TA 459 M43). Properties of materials; plus volumes on welding, heat treating, casting, machining, and more.

  • ThomasNet.com
Use this free directory to find producers of chemicals and manufacturers of hazardous material handling, containment, and storage equipment, as well as hazardous materials management services. Based on the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers (no longer being printed).

4. Hazardous Materials Information

  • Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials (Ref T 55.3 H3S3)
Provides data on over 15,000 compounds. Included are CAS registry numbers, molecular formula and weight, properties, toxicity data, hazard rating, status with EPA or other agencies, more.

  • Genium’s Handbook of Safety, Health, and Environmental Data
(Ref T55.3 H3 G46) Similar to Sax (above).

  • Material Safety Data Sheets
MSDS provide workers and emergency personnel with procedures for handling a particular substance. Data includes physical properties, toxicity, reactivity, etc.

5. More Electronic Resources

  • C&EN, Chemical & Engineering News
Published by the American Chemical Society this weekly publication covers technical developments as well as product and industry news. This journal is part of the ACS Web journal package.

  • Avoid Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of or passing off of somebody else's work as your own. Don't do it!
