Cal Poly Pomona Rose Float Alumni Reorganizes
Since its founding in the early 1970's, the Rose Float chapter of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association has been one of the most active and involved special interest alumni groups to exist.
With more than 30 years of operation it was time for this chartered group of alumni to have an introspective look into its purpose and methods of operation. Following a call to all Rose Float alumni to attend a "Summit Meeting" held in early December, members agreed they should look into a number of new and innovative programs and activities to better serve the Rose Float alumni and student constituencies.
As a result of that meeting, an ensuing board meeting was held on March 3 during which an ad hoc "Transition Committee" was formed to take on the evaluation and recommendation of new programs and services. For the outcome, plans and more detail of this move to reorganize, visit http://www.csupomona.edu/advancement/alumni/chapters/rosefloat.html
The Cal Poly Rose Float Tradition
Like the members of the past 59 Rose Float Committees that have preceded our students, this year's Cal Poly Rose Float Committee and Club members are readying themselves to enter yet another float (No. 60) in the 2008 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Those Rose Float students that preceded this year's crew are now fondly called "Rose Float Alumni" and are presently taking a very close examination of what their organization has accomplished over the past years. In some cases, there will be some fairly significant changes, and in other cases it will be to continue "business as usual" for the Cal Poly Pomona Rose Float Alumni Chapter.
Here's a brief oversight of those activities and programs being reviewed/revamped by the Rose Float Alumni Chapter:
At its March 3 meeting, the alumni chapter's board authorized the establishment of an "ad hoc" committee to make a comprehensive review, assist in the recruitment of new board members and temporarily take over the day -to-day operations of this alumni chapter. Jeff Knight (former Rose Float Chair) will head up this ad hoc committee. Assignments were handed out to the following , in no particular order:
Budget - Wayne Hittinger ; Bylaw Review - Jeff Knight and Ron Simons ; Annual Meet/Softball Game - Bob and Rosanne Ford; 60 th Reunion Dinner/Event - Kit Hittinger ; Upgrade the PinkLine to an "electronic" Newsletter - Claude Felizardo ; membership programs - Ron Simons ; Honorary Rose Float Alumni/Friend - (open); Trophy Picture Hall maintenance - Sponsored Student Meals - Carrie Knight and Steve/Jane Kin ; Student Liaison - Dale Wong and Michelle Gendreau; Deco Week Booth - Kit and Wayne Hittinge r; Deco Week Training and Float Move Out Celebration - Michelle Gendreau .
Nominations for board member elections were opened and the slate of proposed new officers is presently being presented for ratification at the Annual Chapter Meeting to be held in conjunction with the Alumni/Student Softball Challenge on Saturday, May 12, 2007. Notices will be mailed to all current Rose Float Alumni Chapter members in the coming weeks. Those Rose Float members nominated are:
