Impacted Majors

The California State University (CSU) designates majors as impacted when more applications are received in the initial filing period from CSU eligible applicants than can be accommodated by the campus.

The CSU will announce during the fall filing period those majors that are impacted and the supplementary criteria campuses will use.  That announcement will be published in the CSU Review, which is distributed to high school and college counselors.  Information about the supplementary criteria is also sent to impacted major applicants.

Cal Poly Pomona's impacted majors are Aerospace EngineeringAnimal Health Science, Animal Science, Architecture, Biology, Biotechnology, ChemistryChemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, CommunicationsComputer Engineering, Computer ScienceElectrical Engineering, Environmental BiologyKinesiology (Exercise Science Option), Mechanical Engineering, Music (Industry Studies Option), Psychology, Sociology and Undeclared.

  • First-time freshman applications to these programs should be submitted during the fall initial filing period (October 1 - November 30).
  • Applicants are notified of the admissions decisions in February.

Applicants are notified of the admissions decisions beginning in February.

In addition to your undergraduate admissions application, you will also need to submit other necessary documents including official transcripts from all institutions attended and standardized test results.  These documents must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions and Outreach at Cal Poly Pomona for by the requested dates.

At this time, Cal Poly Pomona is experiencing increased demand across all levels, but the increase is most dramatic with entering freshmen.  The campus anticipates that the increased freshmen demand will exceed our capacity to offer a quality education to our students.  Therefore, be advised that even though you may submit an application to an impacted major and identify an alternate major, we may not be able to accommodate you in that alternate major.  Please keep in mind when applying to an impacted major.
