Answers to Admission-related Questions

7. How do I apply for admission to Cal Poly Pomona?
We strongly encourage you to apply to Cal Poly Pomona on-line at CSUMentor.  If you do not have access to the Web, application forms may be obtained at:
  • any California high school; or
  • any community college; or
  • from the Admissions Office at any of the campuses of the California State University.
Your application and $55.00 filing fee (or fee waiver request) must be submitted by the application deadline.

Apply on-line! It is faster and more accurate.  Application receipt will be confirmed via email.

Do you accept work in progress?
All 60 transferable semester college units must be completed by: end of the previous spring for Fall Quarter*, end of the previous summer for Winter Quarter, end of the previous fall for Spring Quarter, and end of the previous winter for Summer Quarter.

*No summer work in Progress is allowed for Fall applicants.

Is there a limit on transfer credits?
If you are transferring from an accredited college, you will be given full credit for college level courses successfully completed. Credit for courses taken at other institutions may fulfill general education or major curriculum requirements; other courses count as elective credit.

A maximum of 70 semester units (105 quarter units) of community college course credit may be applied towards the number of units required for the bachelor's degree. Courses in excess of the maximum units may receive subject credit to satisfy university requirements. Credit is not given for professional courses in education taken at a community college. While no limit is placed upon the number of transferable credits from a four-year college or university, you must meet all Cal Poly Pomona's general unit, grade, and residence requirements to earn a bachelor's degree.

If you have been certified by your community college as having met all (or most) CSU lower-division general education requirements, you may still be required to take some of the general education courses on the Cal Poly Pomona list. This will occur if the major you select requires or recommends introductory or prerequisite courses.

What happens when I transfer from a semester school?
All transferable units will be converted from semester to quarter units (multiply the semester units by 1.5).

Most students don't lose credit when they transfer from a semester to a quarter system. If you plan to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona from a semester system institution, you should complete a series of courses before you transfer to ensure a smooth transition.  For example, you should complete both Chemistry 1A and 1B to avoid duplicating coursework.

  4. What do I need to have to be eligible for admission?
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for admission:
  1. Have a college grade point average of at least 2.0 or better (2.4 for non-California residents) in all transferable units completed.
  2. Are in good standing at the last college or university attended, i.e., you are eligible to re-enroll.
  3. Have completed at least 30 semester units (45 quarter units) of college coursework with a grade of C or better in each course to be selected from courses in English, arts and humanities, social science, science and mathematics at a level at least equivalent to courses that meet general education requirements.

Please read the Transfers Admissions Requirements for more information.

  5. Do you offer pre-admission advising?
Meeting with an advisor at your Transfer Center and with a Cal Poly Pomona representative to discuss course outlines and to answer questions should be done early in your college career. One-on-one and group pre-admission advising for students.

Cal Poly Pomona outreach counselors are available for pre-admission advising at selected Southern California community colleges to provide information about majors, course work, and requirements. You may arrange a pre-admission advising appointment by contacting your Transfer Center or College and School Relations Office. Click here to find out when we will be on your campus.
