Hello,
my name is April McKettrick.
I
am a Photographer, Instructional Designer
and Media Production Specialistat at Cal
Poly Pomona University.
I work in the
Learning department of the Instructional and Information Technology (I&IT) division .
For
5 years i was the Campus Photographer and I have had the opportunity to travel internationally
on behalf of the University working on educational projects. Some of
my most memorable experiences have taken me to the Middle East and
into the villages of West Africa.
One of my favorite collaborations of artistic technology and photography
is the creation of VR's. The VR (acronym for Virtual
Reality 360• movies) can be used to show environments via a 360° view where
the user participates in their own visual experience.
From an instructional designer's perspective, my goal is to use VR
technology to develop learning models where students are able to
use this visual media as a broader vehicle for learning. Using the
ability to view an environment and interact within that environment
to teach a student is not an engaging and compelling manner
of learning, but it speaks directly to the "learn
by doing" philosophy of the University. |
