Dr. Steven N. Garcia Biography

Dr. Steven N. Garcia was recently appointed by Dr. J. Michael Ortiz as the Vice President for Administrative Affairs and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona).

As the Vice President for Administrative Affairs and CFO, Dr. Garcia is the senior manager of the financial and administrative infrastructure for the University. He oversees and provides professional administration, budgeting, financial management, procurement, and accounting services in support of the University's mission and its broad array of academic and support programs. He is also responsible for facilities planning, design, and construction; and human resource services.

Dr. Garcia has a long and prominent professional career in Administrative and Financial leadership roles in higher education. Apart from his current position as Vice President for Administrative Affairs and CFO, he served as the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer at the Claremont Graduate University from 2008 to 2014. He also served as the Vice President for Administration and CFO at California State University, Los Angeles from 1997 to 2007 and the Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer at the University of Northern Colorado from 1994 to 1997. In all he has been with the California State University (CSU) for 11 years and has served as a Vice President for Finance and Administration for 20 years.

Dr. Garcia received a Bachelor of General Studies with a major in Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1975, a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in Policy and Policy Planning from the University of Kansas in 1979, and a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Policy Program Studies with a focus on Higher Education Administration in 1993. At the University of Northern Colorado he was a part-time lecturer for a graduate level course in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies entitled Finance and Resource Management in Higher Education.

In addition to these professional accomplishments, Dr. Garcia is an active member of several higher education professional organizations to include the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO), the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). He is a member of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Board of Directors and chairs the Finance Committee.
