Job Description

Job Title: Proctor
Company: Cal Poly Pomona - Academic Test Center

The Test Center maintains a commitment to efficient, accurate, and timely service to the campus and community. Weekend testing programs are administered for course placement and graduation requirements in a fair and encouraging environment. A Proctor will be asked to work the GWT (Graduation Writing Test) and the EPT/ELM (English Placement Test/Entry Level Mathematics).

GWT (Graduation Writing Test)

The GWT is administered once per quarter. All Cal Poly Pomona students are required to take this exam before they have graduated. Proctors that attend will be paid $19.75/hr. A general work day for the GWT will run from 7am-3pm with breakfast and lunch being provided.

EPT/ELM (English Placement Test/Entry Level Mathematics)

The EPT/ELM is administered 8 times per academic year. Prospective students for the Cal State University system are required to take this test unless they are exempt from taking this test. Proctors will be paid depending on the type of test sessions they attend. Payment will range from $62-$78 per session (roughly $17.33-$31/hr). A general work day will vary greatly as attendance for the EPT/ELM will fluctuate depending on how close the test is to the registration deadline which occurs each year on the first Saturday in May. March, April and May sittings are the largest with August and October being the smallest. A large sitting will run from 7am-6pm and a small sitting will run from 7am-1pm or 8am-2pm with breakfast and lunch being provided.

In the case of both tests, being hired as a Proctor does not guarantee that you will be used for all or even any of the test sittings. The number of Proctors used varies greatly over the course of the year depending upon student enrollment for each of the tests.

Job Description: Interact with Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate and graduate students, as well as high school students and parents/guardians. Provide information regarding the test administration of EPT/ELM and Graduation Writing Test. Administer and/or proctor GWT and EPT/ELM exams. Assist in check-in of students for tests. Organize, distribute, and collect test materials. Maintain confidentiality, integrity of test materials, and test procedures. Lift/transport test materials.

Qualifications: Excellent professional customer service and people skills. Dependability is a must. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Ability to work in a team atmosphere with interruptions. Ability to effectively address situations of academic dishonesty. Ability to uphold the confidentiality and integrity of the GWT and EPT/ELM exams. Teaching experience is a plus. Current Cal Poly Pomona students must have graduate standing (undergraduates will not be considered). Interested Cal Poly Pomona graduate students will be required to have passed the GWT.
