ARCHES
Achievement, Retention and Commitment to Higher Education Success for students with disabilities are the primary goals of ARCHES. Provides enhanced academic services to 150 students with disabilities each year. As a sister program to Disabled Student Services, ARCHES provides services including academic advising, tracking and monitoring of student progress, disabilities management, study skills development, tutoring, weekly discussion groups, priority disabilities assessment, financial aid and scholarship assistance and technology assistance. Students must meet federal eligibility criteria to receive services.

California Pre-Doctoral Program
This program is designed to increase the pool of potential faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of CSU students who have experienced economic and educational disadvantages. Students are accepted into the program through a system-wide competition. Juniors/seniors or graduate students may apply.

Career Center
Assists students with career planning, major choice, on and off campus employment, and job search including resumes, cover letters, and interviewing. Jobs and internships listings on MonsterTRAK, InterviewTRAK. Provides assistance to currently enrolled students and alumni who have registered for career services. Students must register with the Center through the on-line registration program.

College Reading Skills Program (CRSP)
CRSP offers free reading tutorials to improve critical thinking, reading comprehension, vocabulary and reading rates. CRSP also offers preparation for reading comprehension sections of graduate entrance exams (CBEST, MCAT, GRE, LSAT). For students receiving PELL grants, CRSP can provide supplemental financial aid to students meeting grant aid requirements. Students must meet federal eligibility criteria to receive services.

CSU Chancellor?s Doctoral Incentive Program
The CSU Chancellor?s Doctoral Incentive Program is funded centrally by the Chancellor’s Office. It encourages underrepresented students to pursue doctorate degrees by loaning a maximum of $30,000 to defray educational expenses. After completing the doctorate degree, students may have 1/5 of the loan balance waived for each year they are employed as a faculty member within the CSU system.

Disability Resource Center
The office of Disability Resource Services has been designated as the campus authority to verify disabilities and to prescribe specific accommodations and services for students with documented disabilities. Individualized programs are designed that enable students to compete academically on an equal basis with their non-disabled peers.

Educational Equity Services (EES)
EES oversees the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Summer Bridge Program. EOP is Cal Poly Pomona’s first and most comprehensive postsecondary access and equity program. Established in 1969, EOP serves low-income California residents who demonstrate the motivation and potential to succeed in college. EOP provides admission assistance to help students access Cal Poly Pomona and a wide array of support services to help EOP students through the University including financial assistance for eligible students. EOP students are eligible for the following services: academic advising, study skills instruction and workshops, tutoring, peer mentoring, counseling, and student development services. EES also works in conjunction with the Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Services to provide support services for the Renaissance Scholars program.

Honors Program
The Honors Program is designed to cultivate academic excellence, creativity, critical thinking and independent research. This program provides a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment in which highly motivated students can come together and celebrate the fellowship of community. Honors students are required to maintain a grade point average of 3.3.

International Center
The International Center is the focal point of international activities at Cal Poly Pomona. The Center works in cooperation with the colleges, individual faculty members, student groups, and other units on campus to promote, encourage and facilitate international activity within the University community. Specific International Center activities include international student advising and programming, facilitation of student study abroad, and the teaching of long- and short-term English-as-a-second-language programs.

Target Population: International students, and US students who are interested in a learning experience outside of the US.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)
The LRC provides the following state-funded programs:

A.S.I. University-wide Tutoring: This program offers one-to-one and group tutoring by appointment for $4.00 per hour to any student who wishes to improve his or her academic performance. Tutoring is provided in an array of subject areas by students who have been recommended by faculty and who have been certified through the LRC's College Reading and Learning Association certification program.

Math Test Preparation: This program prepares students for the Math Diagnostic Placement Test (MDPT) with free handouts and on-line interactive problems. Limited free tutoring is also available.

Student Athlete Supervised Study: This program provides a daytime and evening study hall area and limited tutoring for student athletes who have been referred by the Athletic Department.

Maximizing Engineering Potential (MEP)
Established in 1983, the Maximizing Engineering Potential program (MEP) at Cal Poly Pomona is a retention and academic enhancement program for students in Engineering and Computer Science. It is the largest program in the state of California and has a long and successful record of graduating students and placing them in industry. Its purpose is to increase the number and diversity of students graduating in technical disciplines.

McNair Scholars Program
This program is a federally funded TRIO program that provides numerous opportunities to Cal Poly Pomona juniors and seniors who will engage in hands-on, multi-disciplinary training designed to introduce the rigors of study, research, and writing needed to be successful at the doctoral level. The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to increase the number of low income, first generation, and traditionally underrepresented students gaining admission to graduate school, completing doctoral level study, and pursuing careers in college teaching.

Renaissance Scholars
Renaissance Scholars was launched in January of 2002 to honor the achievements and aspirations of motivated and talented young people emancipating from the foster care system. This comprehensive program operates under the Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Services and collaborates closely with Educational Equity Services to provide support services critical to the program. Renaissance Scholars works with off-campus groups to facilitate access to Cal Poly Pomona for eligible young people in foster care and partners with on-campus departments to draw upon the legacy and resources of the University’s Educational Opportunity Program as well as the It’s My Life framework for transitioning foster youth (Casey Family Programs) to help emancipated foster students achieve their educational goals at Cal Poly Pomona.

RISE II
RISE II begins with an 8-week summer program, in which sophomores traditionally underrepresented in the science are introduced to research. It provides preparation, skill development, and background for sustained, intensive research. It is designed to develop an intense and lasting interest in biomedical research. RISE II activities continue throughout the academic year.

Science Educational Enhancement Services (SEES)
This program was established in 1987 to increase the number of Latino, African American and Native American students graduating with degrees in the sciences, mathematics and computer science. The success of SEES lies in the fact that its members become part of a learning community that fosters excellence in academics and leadership.

University Writing Center
The University Writing Center provides services to all Cal Poly Pomona students at no charge. Students can receive assistance with any type of writing assignment at any stage of the process. Writing Center tutors help students understand the assignment and plan their papers. Tutors also help students learn to organize, revise and proofread their papers. In addition to general writing tutoring, the Writing Center offers help in preparing for the Graduation Writing Test.

BIOQUEST
A four-week summer transition program that introduces students to the rigors of college-level technical courses. The primary goal of this residential program is retention of students traditionally underrepresented in the sciences (African American, Native American, Hispanic). An equally important goal is to begin to introduce students to the culture of science through collaboration, academic excellence, seminars, field trips, and discovery-based laboratory experiences.

Target Population: Science or mathematics majors who are African American, Native American, Hispanic.

QUEST
MEP & QUEST

A 4-week commuter program for incoming freshman and transfer students, and who are enrolling in the majors of engineering or computer science. QUEST offers students an opportunity to enhance their academic skills while assisting them in making the transition to Cal Poly Pomona. Features include preparatory courses in mathematics, engineering, applied physics, or chemistry; as well as academic excellence workshops; college survival skills workshops; and field trips to industry.

Target Population: Incoming freshman and transfer students who are eligible to participate in MEP and meet NSF criteria.

Summer Bridge Program
The Summer Bridge Program is a five-week residential program that assists EOP and Renaissance Scholars students in making the transition from high school to the university’s more challenging environment. The Summer Bridge Program offers credit-bearing courses in math, writing, and ethnic studies. Academic advising, registration assistance, tutoring, computer labs, workshops, motivational presentations, and recreational activities are included in the Summer Bridge experience.
