About the Recipients
Adriana Lopez is a current Masters student in the College of Agriculture and is also completing the necessary coursework to become a Registered Dietician. In June 2014, she will become the first in her family to receive a graduate degree. Having been raised in a low-income community, Adriana has always strived to better herself through education. Although neither of her parents graduated high school, she learned from a very early age that education was the key to a successful future. Upon completion of her Master's degree, she plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Public Health. Her long-term career goal is to become a professor of Nutrition at a University.
Fariba Derakhshan Fatemeh is a single mother of two. Currently, she is working to obtain her Master of Arts in Education with an option in Educational Multimedia, which she intends to use towards a career in Education to teach at the university level. Her goal is to focus more on her career decision and to be involved in something that she really enjoys doing. Fariba believes that teaching at a university will be a rewarding career path, because of the self-satisfaction she can obtain in this profession. Due to the world of academia growing and the need for faculty, especially ones that are professionally and academically qualified, she is very motivated in pursuing her education to a doctorate degree.
