THE UNIVERSITY:

The University is one of the 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU), the largest system of higher education in the country . THE COLLEGE OF EXTENDED UNIVERSITY is a self-supporting branch of the university. In addition to a wide range of credit and non-credit continuing education courses and programs, the College manages the Cal Poly English Language Institute; the NASA Commercialization Center ; the Center for Training, Technology & Incubation (CTTI); and facilitates community outreach programs. Applicants for this position should have a demonstrated record of successful leadership as evidenced by programs either completed under their direct or indirect leadership. Additionally, the candidates should be able to demonstrate effective management of resources and externally solicited funding.

THE POSITION: The Dean of the College of the Extended University reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a member of the Dean’s Council. The Dean’s responsibilities include; coordinating continuing education programs that serve professional and community needs on a regional, international and global basis;, promoting faculty involvement with adult learners, strengthening ties with businesses and industries; create opportunities for professional development for corporate/federal/state/ and municipal employees, and ensuring program quality and teaching effectiveness . Applicants for this position should demonstrate experience in fiscal management and an ability to act as a major collaborator who will champion new pedagogies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• An earned advanced degree and academic credentials and related experience; Doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred;

• At least three years of administrative experience at the department chair or program director level. This experience should include strategic planning, policy development, program development and management of fiscal and personnel resources;

• Demonstrated understanding of or experience in developing international executive training programs , certificate programs, and external degree programs including those delivered by technology and other distance-learning venues;

• Demonstrated understanding of or experience in the operational, entrepreneurial, and managerial functions of an extended university program;

• Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral;

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and educational globalization;

• A demonstrated background in building successful networks and working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators and, especially, external constituencies in and around the Inland Empire and the Greater Los Angeles region;

• A capacity to integrate multiple tasks, levels and components of extended education curriculum. This would include successful delivery of programs as well as required operational activities associated with the programs;

• An understanding of current issues in higher education, including effective teaching methodologies for adult learners, opportunities for off-campus and distance education, and strategies for developing and marketing of continuing education programs).

APPOINTMENT AND COMPENSATION: The University seeks to fill this position at the earliest opportunity. Salary is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants with a doctorate or other terminal degree may negotiate a possible faculty appointment with tenure in one of the colleges of the University.
