POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
THE UNIVERSITY: California State Polytechnic University , Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is one of 23 campuses in The California State University system. It is located about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles , and is in one of the most dynamic economic and cultural regions in the country. The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W. K. Kellogg, located within an hour's drive of beaches, mountains and desert. The university currently has an ethnically diverse student population of about 19,000. Students are enrolled in 65 baccalaureate and 20 master’s degree programs with approximately 1,200 tenured, tenure-track, and temporary faculty members. The university is committed to diversifying its faculty and staff and has made educational equity one of its highest priorities. The mission of the university is to advance learning and knowledge by linking theory and practice in all disciplines, and to prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership, and careers in a changing, multicultural world.
THE COLLEGE: The College of Education and Integrative Studies includes the Department of Education, Ethnic & Women’s Studies Department, the Interdisciplinary General Education (IGE) Department, and the Liberal Studies Department. Our stated mission is to educate women and men to live and work in a diverse and changing global society through graduate, teacher education and undergraduate programs. The College provides an interactive, inquiry-based environment, incorporating a multi-disciplinary and multicultural curriculum and approach in collaboration with other colleges and subject fields within the University. Our graduates are prepared for leadership roles, and to address the complex issues that confront our communities in working towards a creative, just and democratic society. Through the Education Department, a wide range of teaching credentials is offered, including the preliminary Administrative Services credential. Degrees offered include B.A. in Liberal Studies, B.A. in Gender, Ethnicity, and Multicultural Studies, Interdisciplinary General Education program, M.A. in Education; we expect to start offering an Ed.D. in Education Leadership in 2010. The College is also committed to maintaining and extending professional education partnerships with school districts, including the I-Poly High School located on campus. Significant components of the professional programs are based on-site in partner schools. There are approximately 700 undergraduate majors, 600 Interdisciplinary General Education students, 600 credential students, 600 graduate students, 45 tenured/ tenure-track faculty and 60 part-time and full-time lecturers in the College. Ten faculty members from disciplines throughout the university teach in the credential program.
THE POSITION: The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as a member of the Academic Deans' Council, and works closely with others in Academic Affairs. The Dean heads a College leadership team consisting of Department Chairs, an Associate Dean, and staff with an annual budget of $5 million. The Dean fosters an environment conducive to academic quality, collegiality, innovation and open discussion, and an appreciation for ethnic, cultural, and social diversity. Within the College, the Dean promotes collaboration, team building and active involvement with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the surrounding community. It is expected that the Dean will create a council of community and education leaders, and provide strategies to insure innovation in teaching and learning. The Dean manages all fiscal and personnel responsibilities and stimulates excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. The Dean also directs faculty and staff recruitment, development, and evaluation and represents the College among constituents in K-14 school districts and other external forums. Moreover, the Dean provides leadership in College efforts in strategic planning, program review, and re-accreditation.

APPOINTMENT DATE/SALARY: The University seeks to fill this position by September 3, 2008 or by a date mutually agreed upon between the candidate and the University. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes an attractive benefits package.
