The Office of the Provost
Provost denBoer came to Cal Poly Pomona after serving as Associate Provost at Queens College of the City University of New York. He has also served as Chair of the Physics Department at Hunter College and as a faculty member at the Polytechnic Institute of New York.
Dr. denBoer's administrative accomplishments have focused on developing new programs, including BBA, MFA in creative writing, neuroscience, and education; raising student quality with increased admission standards; increasing student support services; fostering a six-year freshmen graduation rate of approximately 60% (among the highest of any urban public commuter school); and developing "smart" classrooms.
His undergraduate and graduate teaching has included courses on Astronomy, the Foundations of Science, Intermediate Mechanics, and Classical Mechanics. His scholarly record focuses on the use of x-ray absorption spectroscopy in the investigation of materials important in energy storage and conversion, particularly batteries and fuel cells.
Dr. denBoer believes that the role of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is "... to generate a record of working collaboratively and successfully with all stakeholders in Academic Affairs, including students, faculty, departments, and programs, to achieve consensus and reach important goals."
