Video Contest Rules

ELIGIBILITY

The 75th Anniversary Video Contest is open to the public, including Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, staff and alumni. Individuals or groups are limited to a total of 10 entries. The competition is sponsored by the Office of Public Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona.

CONTEST ENTRY

All videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vine and/or Instagram. In addition, contestants must complete and submit the online registration form at www.csupomona.edu/~75th/. Contestants must supply all details required by the registration form and comply with all rules to be eligible to participate in the competition. If submitting a video as a group, designate one representative to be the contact person and to accept the prize.

DEADLINE

All entries must be received by Monday, May 12, 2014, at 1:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Any entries received after this time will not be considered. The Office of Public Affairs does not accept responsibility for late or lost entries. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.

April 7 – Competition Opens

April 28 – Submissions due at 11:59 p.m.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS AND FORMAT

The theme of the 75th Anniversary Contest is “Your Cal Poly Pomona Experience.” Videos may be submitted via YouTube, Instagram or Vine. YouTube videos may be up to 3 minutes long. Instagram and Vine videos are limited to 15 and 6 seconds, respectively.

All videos must be publicly viewable on YouTube, Instagram and/or Vine. Other formats or submission methods (DVD, USB drive, email, Dropbox) will not be accepted.

Videos must contain only original material. Submissions cannot contain copyrighted music or images, unless you have authorization proof to use them. When filming people, participants must ensure the subjects have given their consent.

Violence, excessive profanity, sexually explicit content, libel and/or attacks on individuals or organizations may not be depicted in any form. Videos should not invade privacy, reveal other people’s personal information or display predatory behavior.  Videos must not contain material that promotes intolerance, harassment, intimidation, racism, hatred or harm against any group, individual or organization or promote discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.

The Office of Public Affairs reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify and delete any entry it deems to be offensive, inappropriate, derogatory and libelous, or not in keeping with the competition theme or that is otherwise not in compliance with the official contest rules.

JUDGING

Each video will be scored on a 100-point scale. The judging committee will use the following criteria:

10 points: Technical Excellence
30 points: Theme (“Your Cal Poly Pomona Experience”)
30 points: Creativity/Originality
30 points: Storytelling/Emotional Value

AWARDS

A total of six awards will be given. Each entrant, individual or group, may only win one award.

$750 Grand Prize for best overall video
$100 Second Prize
$50 Third Prize
$25 Honorable Mention for best YouTube video
$25 Honorable Mention for best Instagram video
$25 Honorable Mention for best Vine video

Any attempt by a contestant to influence the result or subvert the competition may lead to immediate disqualification. The Office of Public Affairs reserves the right to not select a winner or winners if entries received are judged to be of insufficient quality. If a winning entrant is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, the video competition reserves the right to offer the prize to the contestant with the next best entry.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

Potential winners will be notified by email and/or telephone in May and may be requested to complete documents required by the competition.

RIGHTS                                                                                

You will retain all rights to any video you submit -- including ownership if applicable. By entering the competition, you grant Cal Poly Pomona a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:

  • Use the video on the Internet in support of our mission.
  • Use the video in Cal Poly Pomona publications, both print and online.
  • Show the video in exhibits at an event.
    Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD, DVD or in other electronic forms, so that your videos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.
