Q:Is
it true that due to increased applications, Cal Poly Pomona will be restricting
enrollment in the very near future? If so, what can I do to increase my
chances of getting accepted?
A: Cal
Poly Pomona has seen a significant increase in enrollment over the last
eight years, with enrollment last fall reaching 19,824 students. The communities
served by the campus have been very responsive to Cal Poly Pomona's commitment
to providing a quality education for our diverse student constituency.
While the campus' growth is projected to continue, the number of prospective
students interested in enrolling throughout the 23 CSU campuses over the
next few years exceeds the number that can be accommodated. This increase
of prospective students comes at a time when the state budget is undergoing
budget reductions, which will impact higher education in California.
Cal Poly Pomona is actively involved in an enrollment planning effort
to maximize access to the campus while maintaining a strong learning environment
for both current and entering students. Our goal is to plan enrollment
growth in a manner that reflects the projected campus capacity and promotes
student success. Availability of classes, facilities and other campus
resources is critical for students to make timely progress towards their
degrees.
Beginning summer 2003, admissions are closed to lower division transfers
and second baccalaureate students. Transfer applicants must meet the upper
division transfer requirements, including the completion of 56 or more
transferable units with a 2.0 grade point average or better.
Students who are interested in applying to Cal Poly Pomona are strongly
encouraged to apply within the following priority filing period, as applications
will close once application targets have been met:
