INearly
four years ago in our first issue of Panorama, I wrote about how
fortunate we are at Cal Poly Pomona to enjoy the view of the Inland
and San Gabriel valleys. ince then, there have been many changes
in scenery, both figurative and literal, yet I believe the university
remains privileged to be a part of such a diverse and vibrant region.
During my tenure as president, I have sought to provide educational
access to all the communities in the area. I know that Cal Poly
Pomona has gained much from the host of projects and partnerships
created and maintained over the years.
The ultimate benefit has gone to those who have utilized the university's
resources. From the students who have attended classes to the community
members who have taken advantage of the opportunities at Cal Poly
Pomona, the resulting progress has proven encouraging and gratifying.
On my retirement in July, my wife, Agnes, and I will leave Cal Poly
Pomona after 12 wonderful years of service. We have made lasting
friendships and will treasure our many memories. I am confident
the next president, Michael Ortiz, will continue to strengthen and
broaden the bridge that links the campus to the community.
