As a public university, Cal Poly Pomona relies on the generosity of many to meet its annual financial needs. In fact, one out of every three budgeted dollars must be generated from off-campus resources. Fortunately, Cal Poly Pomona enjoys the strong support of an outstanding delegation of elected officials. Three individuals on the national level deserve special recognition for their diligent efforts to help the university receive important federal assistance: U.S. Congressmen David Dreier (R-28th district) and Gary Miller (R-41st district) and Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-34th district). Dreier, who represents foothill communities from Pasadena to Claremont, and Millerwith a district that now includes nearby Diamond Bar and Pomonahave long supported Cal Poly Pomona. Napolitano, who recently visited the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center, is already working closely with the university on several federal matters. Her early efforts are a reflection of her commitment toward bringing government agencies, community groups and higher education institutions together for the betterment of all. For Cal Poly Pomona, which stresses an affordable, quality education, a learn-by-doing philosophy and close local community partnerships, the strong support of elected leaders is essential to our continued success. Cal Poly Pomona is indeed fortunate to count Representatives Dreier, Miller and Napolitano as honored university supporters Jon Hagler is director of governmental
