Ethernet Network Connections

There are total of 54 network connections available in the study rooms and study carrels on the 4th and 5th floors.  To connect to the Internet you must have the proper hardware and software installed on your laptop computer.

Hardware needed:

  • Ethernet Card
  • 10 Base-T Ethernet Cable with RJ45 connector

TCP/IP Configuration Steps

Windows 95, 98, ME

    • Select StartSettingsControl Panel
    • Double click the Network — select Configuration
    • Select the TCP/IP Ethernet Adapter — click Properties
    • Select IP Address — select "Obtain an IP address automatically"
    • Click "OK" to save changes.

Windows NT

    • Select StartSettingsControl Panel
    • Double click the Network — select Protocols
    • Select TCP/IP Protocol — click Properties
    • Select IP Address — select the Ehternet Adapter — click "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server "
    • Click "OK" to save changes.

Windows 2000

    • Select StartSettingsControl Panel
    • Double click the Network and Dial-up Connections
    • Double click the Local Area Connection
    • Click Properties
    • Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) — click Properties
    • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" — click OK
    • Click "OK" to save changes — click close.

Windows XP

    • Select startControl Panel
    • Click the Network and Internet Connections
    • Click the Network connections
    • Double click the Local Area Connection
    • Click Properties
    • Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) — click Properties
    • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" — click OK
    • Click "OK" to save changes — click close.

MacOS 7.5+

    • Open Systems Folder Control PanelsTCP/IP
    • In the Setup - Configure: box, select "Using DHCP Server"
    • Close the TCP/IP window and save changes

Mac OS X

    • Select Apple Menu — System Preferences
    • Click the Network — select TCP/IP tab
    • Select Using DHCP” on the configure menu
    • Click the Apply Now to save changes
