# 1 Cal Poly Pomona runs past San Francisco State, 78-62
POMONA¾ Cal Poly Pomona’s women’s basketball team enjoyed its return to
Kellogg Gym.
The Broncos, who had played their last four conference games on
the road, returned home and ran past San Francisco State, 78-62, Friday night
in Kellogg Gym. The defending national champs, currently ranked No. 1 in the
nation, won their 19th straight home game. That streak is the
fourth-longest in the nation.
Lauri McIntosh, the nation’s leading scorer, led the Broncos
with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Aprile Powell, a returning
All-American, added 13 points and four rebounds. Burgundie Porter and Anna
James scored nine points each, while Margot Richards and Salma Rasheed scored
eight points each.
Cal Poly Pomona (12-2, 8-1) opened up leads as large as 24
points in the first half and led 42-27 at halftime. San Francisco State (5-10,
2-8) sliced the lead to six points in the second half, but the Broncos pulled
away again down the stretch.
Audra-jo Johnson scored 13 points to lead the Gators, while
Renee Jiminez scored 11 points and Jessica McKimmie scored 10 points.
Cal Poly Pomona had a slim 41-39 edge on the boards and forced
San Francisco State in 29 turnovers. The Broncos, though, had 24 turnovers and
shot just 37 percent for the game.
