Broncos Cruise Past Golden Eagles

 

POMONA  ¾ Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team got a nice bump in the polls and then the Broncos went out and defended their new and improved ranking.

      The Broncos won their fifth straight match, beating Cal State L.A. for a second time this season, 8-1, Friday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona. Cal Poly Pomona (7-1) jumped from 24th to 21st in the latest NCAA Division II poll released Friday. Ryan Terry (Jr., Diamond Bar, Diamond Bar HS) won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and teamed with Andy Roland (Jr., Hollywood, Glendale CC) for a victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-1 to lead the way.

      The Broncos also got wins from Roland at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1; Nguyen Than (Jr., Garden Grove, Loara HS) at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6; David Nguyen (So., Los Angeles, Beverly Hills HS) at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and Kevin Chen (Jr., Rancho Bernardo, Torrey Pines HS) at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of JR Villaroman (Sr., Anaheim, Troy HS) and Seamus Sullivan (Jr., Palos Verdes, Peninsula HS) won, 8-6, while the No. 3 doubles team of Than/Nguyen was victorious, 8-4.

      The Broncos will return to action on March 10 against UC San Diego.
