Broncos Net A Win Over Cal State L.A.

POMONA ¾ Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team won its third match in four outings with a regional victory over Cal State L.A. on Tuesday.

The Broncos upended the Golden Eagles, 6-3, to improve their record to 3-1. The Broncos were coming off a 6-3 loss at UC San Diego, but won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches against Cal State L.A. (0-3).

JR Villarmon (Sr., Anaheim, Troy HS) won a tough three-set match at No. 1 singles, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to lead the Broncos. Andy Roland (Jr., Hollywood, Glendale CC) won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, Seamus Sullivan (Jr., Palos Verdes, Peninsula HS) won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4 and A.J. Feliz (Sr., San Gabriel, New Mexico Military Institute) won at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 for Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal Poly Pomona’s No. 1 doubles team of Villaroman and Sullivan won its match, 8-3, while the No. 3 doubles team of Roland and Kevin Chen (Jr., Rancho Bernardo, Torrey Pines HS) prevailed, 8-0, in its match.

The Broncos will host the California Invitational beginning Friday at Cal Poly Pomona.
