Broncos Post Big Win Over Aggies

 

# 24 Cal Poly Pomona knocks off # 17 UC Davis

 

POMONA ¾  Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team posted one of its most significant victories in years with a 7-2 victory over UC Davis Saturday morning in the 2002 California Invitational team tennis tournament. The Broncos will face UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon in the championship match.

      The Broncos, ranked 24th in the NCAA Division II, won two of three doubles sets and five of six singles matches to record the win over the 17th-ranked Aggies. Cal Poly Pomona improved to 5-1, while UC Davis dropped to 4-3.

      The doubles teams of Ryan Terry (Jr., Diamond Bar, Diamond Bar HS) and Andy Roland (Jr., Hollywood, Glendale CC) and Nguyen Than (Jr., Garden Grove, Loara HS) and David Nguyen (So., Los Angeles, Beverly Hills HS) won their matches by scores of 8-6 to set the stage for the win. JR Villaroman (Sr., Anaheim, Troy HS), Roland, Terry, Than and Nguyen all won their singles matches for the Broncos.

      UC San Diego reached the championship match with a 6-3 victory over Azusa Pacific.
