SAN BERNARDINO ¾ Cal Poly Pomona’s baseball team is probably glad it won’t be playing at San Bernardino’s Arrowhead Credit Union Park any more this year.
The Broncos lost for the second straight time in San Bernardino, 12-2, to Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes scored three runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth to break the game open and win for the fourth time in five conference games. Cal State San Bernardino (9-3, 4-1) is ranked 17th in the nation, while the Broncos (9-4-1, 4-2) are ranked 18th.
Gregor Connors (Sr. Poway, Palomar College) hit his second home run of the season in the fourth inning and Andy Gonzales (Fr., Whittier, California HS) singled in a run in the ninth inning, but that was it for the Broncos, who collected just six hits in the game. Jose Munoz (Jr., Baldwin Park, Rio Hondo CC) had two of the Broncos’ hits.
David Krisch (Sr., El Cajon, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) lost for the first time in four decisions after allowing seven hits and six runs in five innings. Brian Schweiger hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Coyotes, while Shaun Rudi also drove in three runs.
The two nationally-ranked foes will meet again Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. at Cal Poly Pomona’s Scolinos Field.
