1.      “Forced Labor:”  Sex Trafficking

      This is a film and discussion about sex trafficking between Asia and the United States.  A speaker from the Coalition Against Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) will lead the discussion on the global issue of sex trafficking.

      Napoleon Madrid, Pilipino leader and former mayor of Delano, Julie Chavez-Rodriguez, granddaughter and director of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation and Marissa Pulido with the Agbayani Pilgrimage Organizing Committee will be speaking on the Migratory Farm Workers Movement.

      Urban Designer Bennett Peji, Master Planner of Filipino Village will speak on the idea and development behind the creation of San Diego's future Filipino Village.

      Bio:  Bennett Peji is a Commissioner of Art & Culture for the City of San Diego.  He is past President of the San Diego Chapter of AIGA and currently serves on the national board of directors of the AIGA   Center for Cross-Cultural Design.  He has taught branding systems at San Diego State University.  Mr. Peji is the Master Plan Consultant for the Filipino Village in National City.  He is the recipient of the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce's 2004 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award as well as the 2004 Asian Heritage Award for Cultural Preservation.  Mr. Peji is a founding board member and regent of the Baja California Missions Foundation, founded to renovate and preserve the historic missions in Mexico.

4.      Strength Through Our Struggles:  The labor movement in the United States

      View the half-hour documentary “Labor Women” by Renee Tajima-Pena and then join panelists, John Delloro, President of APALA, Karla Zombro, Strategic Projects Coordinator of SCROPE/AGENDA, Kent Wong, Director of the Center for Labor Research and Education at the University of California, Los Angeles and a speaker from the Chinese Daily News Strike as they speak on the challenges and successes of the labor movement, the importance and development of labor unions, and how to support the movement.

      The “Day of Independence” is a half-hour short film set in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II.  It explores one family's experience and examines the sacrifices and triumphs of those who endured and survived through perseverance, courage, and the all-American game of baseball.   The movie is followed by a question and answer session with director Chris Tashima, an Academy Award winner for his short film about Chiune Sugihara, the actors in the movie and a survivor of the Japanese Internment Camp.

8.      API Community Tour to “Little Saigon”

      “Little Saigon” in Westminster, CA

      This year's tour will take participants to “Little Saigon,” a Vietnamese community in Westminster, California.  April 30th, also known as “Black April”, marks the fall of Vietnam, Saigon.  Participants will explore the history behind the development of the Vietnamese community and visit local landmarks.
