Deep Freeze: Baseline Computer Configuration Preservation
Traditional Media Equipment and Additional Information
All classrooms on campus will be upgraded to a baseline level that will include:
Although a computer will be available in the classroom for use by faculty, it will have only basic software. Faculty members are encouraged to bring their own laptops and information to reduce the amount of work they need to do to make use of the classroom equipment.
As of April 1, 2008, the following classrooms have been upgraded:
I&IT has installed Deep Freeze on all of its classroom computer systems. If an unauthorized software or file change occurs on one of these systems, Deep Freeze reverts the computer system to its original software configuration, removing any software or file changes that have occurred since its initial installation. Spyware, viral infections and/or illegal download storage files are removed once the system is rebooted. This removal process occurs automatically at midnight, every night.
To prevent storage of illegal downloads, downloader programs or hacker programs, our systems do not provide a place for file storage. It is suggested that classroom computer users bring their class presentations and projects on their own storage media (i.e.: jump drive, CD or DVD).
By reducing the amount of time required to maintain these classroom computers, Deep Freeze benefits the whole campus community.
If professors require assistance using the media equipment in the classroom, Help Desk personnel will be available to assist and support them.

Training in the use of classroom hardware and presentation and media software is available through I&IT throughout the year.
Additionally, if needed, faculty may request the assistance of an IT-FITS student for one-on-one support by calling Studio Six at X3099.
If professors would like to have students create and present material in the new classrooms, they are welcome to do so. Faculty members may wish to have students use the PC or Mac available in the classroom if they are concerned about exposing laptops to computer viruses.
Guest lecturers may also use the equipment in the enhanced classrooms for their lectures and media presentations.
If professors require equipment not provided in the classroom, such as a 16mm or slide projector, contact Media Distribution at X3920 or email MediaOrder@csupomona.edu. This equipment can be picked up in Building 5 or it can be delivered directly to classrooms.
