New Usernames Implemented for BroncoDirect

The use of BroncoNumbers for logging into BroncoDirect ended March 1, 2006, in favor of a single sign-on capability. As a result of this change, all students, faculty and staff who currently have BroncoDirect access should begin using their BroncoName (also known as Username) and its corresponding BroncoPassword to log in.

The BroncoName is indicated by the part of the Cal Poly Pomona e-mail address before the @csupomona.edu, (i.e. billybronco@csupomona.edu would be BroncoName billybronco). The BroncoPassword is the password used for accessing campus e-mail and other intranet services, such as Blackboard.

The campus community will use BroncoNames and BroncoPasswords for all Instructional & Information Technology (I&IT) campus online activities. This includes Blackboard use.

While the new system will safeguard records to the highest degree possible, students, faculty and staff should take measures to change their passwords regularly. This will limit the possibility of any unauthorized access.

In addition, those who have not changed their passwords from the default setting should do so as soon as possible. This can be done through the Intranet Services Page.  To change your BroncoPassword, go to My Control Panel, log in using your BroncoName and BroncoPassword, and select the "Account" tab. Enter your existing password, and a new password twice to confirm it in the specified fields.   Your changes will be saved after clicking the "Change BroncoPassword" button. It is best to use passwords that are not easy to guess. For details, see Use Complicated Passwords.

When prospective students apply to Cal Poly Pomona, they will be sent instructions on how to complete a mandatory identity process, referred to as “Account Claiming.” This allows them to claim their Bronco Identity. By following these instructions, Cal Poly Pomona applicants will be able to complete a mandatory identity verification process, which includes providing correct responses to a series of questions designed to confirm the applicant’s identity, setting up secrets so they can do a self-reset of their password in the future and accepting an Appropriate Use Policy for effective and efficient use of Cal Poly Pomona’s computing, communications and information resources.

Upon completion of this account claiming, they will have been provided with their BroncoName and will have created their BroncoPassword. This will allow them to check their admission status and their official Cal Poly Pomona e-mail.

Please note, while the BroncoName replaces the BroncoNumber for BroncoDirect log-in, BroncoNumbers are still official identification numbers for students, faculty and staff. BroncoNumbers will still be used for various identification purposes at the Registrar’s Office, Human Resources, The Cashier’s Office, as well as at food outlets, admission to athletic events and other campus-sponsored events.

The BroncoNumber, a nine-digit identifier (i.e. 003468661) is assigned to students when applying and to employees when hired. To obtain a Bronco Access Card, the student or employee should go to Photo Identification in 98-R2-2 ( CLA Building) near the Registrar’s Office to have a picture taken. At that time the BroncoNumber will be printed on a Bronco Access Card.

There are a few exceptions to this for non-state students, non-state employees and affiliates.

If difficulty is encountered in this transition or if you have questions, please call or go to the HelpDesk in Building 1 Room 100 immediately. To reach a HelpDesk representative, please call (909) 869-6776. The HelpDesk is available Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (except state holidays).
