Equipment Operating Questions:
General:
Q. How do I turn on the power?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Locate the Master Power Console (attached beneath the table).
- Flip all five switches to "ON.”
- Make sure that the PC and monitor power is also turned "ON."
- If the equipment won’t power up, check and make sure that the main power cable is connected to the power outlet on the wall.
For a podium:
- Locate the "Main Power Supply" and turn "ON" the power switch.
Note: I = On and 0 = Off.
- Wait five seconds.
- If the equipment won’t power up, check to confirm that the main power cable is connected to the power outlet on the wall.
Q. Why can't I read the floppy disk, CD or USB Flash Drive?
A. Make sure that the PC power is turned "ON". DO NOT insert your floppy disk, CD or USB Flash Drive prior to powering the PC. If you are still having technical difficulties, call the Help Desk at 909.869.6776 for immediate assistance.
Q. Why can't I connect to the Internet?
A. Check to see if the cable is physically connected to the data jack on the wall. If the cable is connected and you are still experiencing difficulty in connecting to the Internet, contact the Help Desk at 909.869.6776 for immediate assistance. Be prepared to provide your name and classroom location.
Q. I can't eject the CD or floppy disk from the computer. What do I do?
A. There’s an eject button on the computer near the slot where you inserted your CD or floppy disk. Locate this button and press it to release your CD or floppy disk.
Another option is to double-click the “My computer” icon:
- Locate your CD or floppy disk.
- Select the "My Computer" icon and right-click it.
- A scroll down menu will appear.
- Select “Eject” and your CD or floppy disk will be released.

Q. Why can't I install software?
A. The I&IT Projects & Services technicians are the only individuals who are able to install any licensed software onto any LCTI equipment. Audio:
Q. There’s no sound from my PowerPoint presentation. How can I get the sound to work?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Single-click the speaker icon located on the task bar (bottom right corner of the screen).
- Uncheck the mute box if it is checked.
- Adjust the audio level to your satisfaction.
For a podium:
- Single-click the speaker icon located on the task bar (bottom right corner of the screen).
- Uncheck the mute box if it is checked.
- Adjust the audio level to your satisfaction.
If you are still experiencing difficulties with the sound:
- Locate the Media Link Control on the front panel of the podium.
- Look for a small knob labeled “Volume” and adjust it by turning the knob clockwise to increase the volume.
If you are still experiencing difficulties with the sound, check the Media Link Control to see if the “Mute” button is selected. If it is selected, deselect it by pressing the “Mute” button.

Q. How do I control audio coming from the VCR?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Locate the external volume control located next to the VCR.
- Adjust to the desired audio level.
For a podium:
- To adjust the audio level, look for a small knob labeled “Volume” and adjust it by turning the knob clockwise to increase the volume and counterclockwise to decrease the volume.

Q. How do I turn on the data projector?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Make sure that the power switch on the wall is "ON."
- Point the remote control directly to the data projector and press the "ON" button.
NOTE: Do not press the "ON” button twice.
For a podium:
- Press the "ON" button located on the Media Link Control panel.
Note:
Data projector will need 10 - 15 seconds to warm up before display is perceived.

Q. Why doesn't the (DVD-ROM) DVD player engage?
A. If experiencing problems with the (DVD-ROM) DVD playing:
- Eject the DVD.
- Re-insert the DVD and wait five seconds for the auto play to engage.
- If auto play won’t start, follow these steps:
- Open "My Computer" and double-click the DVD to start the DVD.
Or, you may:
- Open a Media Player located on the Desktop.
- Select “File” (top-left corner of the media player’s screen).
- A scroll down menu will appear.
- Select “Open file".
- Locate the file/DVD you wish to play, and select it.

Q. How do I get a display from the DVD/VCR player to the big screen TV / data projector?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Check the input source with the remote control.
- Select "Input 4" to display DVD/VCR video on the big screen TV / data projector.
- Press “Play” button on the DVD/VCR player.
For a podium:
- To display video, press the "DVD/VCR" button on the control panel.
- Press the “Play” button on the DVD/VCR player.
Q. How do I get local channels to display on the big screen TV?
A. Check to see if the power is "ON" on the big screen TV. If the power is on and there is still a problem, check the input source on the remote control. Select “Ant.” and then select the desired channel.
Q. Why does the PC not work with the data projector?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Make sure the PC is on. Then, select “I” on the ServSwitch to display PC.
For a podium:
- Confirm that the Podium’s Main Power Supply is switched to “ON” ( I – ON and O – Off).
- Select the “PC” button located on the Media Link Control panel.

Q. How can I get my laptop to display on the big screen TV or data projector?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
Make sure laptop power is "off" before the VGA is connected.
NOTE: Do not connect laptop if the power is "ON".
Windows users:
- Connect the VGA cable before turning on the laptop.
- Then, select the data projector by holding the “Ctrl” key down and selecting the “CRT/LCD” key (it’s usually the F8 key).
Mac users:
- Connect the VGA cable and it will automatically detect the data projector.
If the projector is not detected:
- Go to System Preference.
- Select “detect display” to activate the external video for the data projector.
Note: If the display is distorted, the resolution must be changed to 1024 x 768.

For a podium:
- Make sure the Main Power Supply is on (I – On and 0 - Off).
- Locate the cable cubby on the podium labeled “Laptop Connections.”
- Open the cable cubby and pull out the laptop cables.

Q. Why can't I get a display on the desktop monitor and the data projector?
A. For a desk-type computer station:
- Confirm that all the power switches on the power console, PC and data projector are turned on.
- To display from the data projector, use the projector’s remote to verify that “Input 1” is selected.
- Locate the ServSwitch. Make sure that input “1” was selected by pressing the button on top of the ServSwitch.
Note: If you’re still experiencing difficulties, contact the Help Desk at 909.869.6776 for immediate assistance. Be prepared to provide your name and classroom location.
For a podium:
- Make sure that the Main Power Supply is on. If it is not on, flip the switch to “I” and wait five seconds for the control system to initialize.
- Make sure that the data projector power is on. Wait at least 30 seconds for the projector to warm up.
- Locate the Media Link Control panel on the podium.
- Select one of the buttons labeled “PC,” “Laptop,” “DVD/VCR” or “Document Camera” depending on the source of your display.

Q. Why is the image on the big screen TV blurry?
A. The PC or laptop resolution is too high. The resolution for the big screen TV should be set to 1024 x 768, 60hz. Call the Help Desk at 909.869.6776 for immediate assistance. Be prepared to provide your name and classroom location.

Q. Why doesn't the Server Switch button switch from I to II?
