Q. What is Safe Zone?A. The safe zone symbol sends a message to students and colleagues. This message is one of understanding, non-judgment and knowledge of gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons' needs and concerns. It is symbolic of a willingness and a commitment on your part to provide an atmosphere of acceptance and assistance. |
Q. Why do we need this Program at Cal Poly Pomona?A. Information gained from GALA (Gay and Lesbian Alliance), the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Faculty/Staff Association, and the University Diversity Committee is startling. Our gay, lesbian, and bisexual students feel nearly invisible on our campus and sometimes find the climate uninviting or even hostile. These conditions foil our attempts at fostering student development and growth. Safe Zone is a way for us to reach out to these students and include them in all aspects of education and community at CPU. Quarterly training is held for members of the campus community. Department training and other special workshops are also available. Contact Jonnie Owens to arrange a training workshop for your department.
